How the hell have Albion come up in the thread, or more to the point, the "comparison" to The Smoggies?
The club that are 11th most sucessful club in England, but the club that are 27th are "bigger".
It must be the fumes up there.![]()
WBA are a tiny club. Surrounded by villa Birmingham wolves etc. WBA don't have a decent fanbase.
No offence WBA have done well over the years for such a small club. When Peace left it was a disaster for you.
what are the better examples then
Nothing fishy about that at allStill mind boggling how a side with crap like Drinkwater, Morgan, Huth, Albrighton, Simpson, Fuchs won a title

Nah. Sheff utd and wolves would be better comparisonsTrophies wise, obviously Swindon, Luton Town and Oxford. 1 (one) League Cup
Crowd wise, probably Stoke, Palace, Norwich
Stoke and Norwich also have 1 League Cup so they are similar
Not Wolves- they were one of the top teams in the country for a period , late 50s. Also they have won both major UK honours ( League and The Cup)Nah. Sheff utd and wolves would be better comparisons
Depends on your definition of size, wolves is probably pushing it like but always perceived a club big by its crowd size and potential, always saw Newcastle as a bigger club than villa and Everton even if the other two have more stories history and always perceived Sunderland and villa as fairly equal or Sunderland as slightly bigger and only just behind Everton. If a club gets big crowds and consistently underperforms they still register as â big clubâ just an unsuccessful one imoNot Wolves- they were one of the top teams in the country for a period , late 50s. Also they have won both major UK honours ( League and The Cup)
And their post war avearge crowd ( the period when official gate figures were taken as a norm ) is 20% higher than Middlesbroughs
Maybe Blades

So.. MidlandsFair points . I must admit, I initially mistook you for another poster , Boro_Fan so I take back my snide reference to Swindon, Oxford and Luton fella.
Truth be told, I would have Boro round and about the group of clubs like Stoke, Leicester, Derby Birmingham maybe Forest. I know Derby and Forest won the League , but that was down to one man. Overall, that is where I would pitch you
Yeah. You know, the nondescript ones that just kind of hang around, hoping someone will notice them.So.. Midlands
finally a Sunderland fan talking reasonably. There are about 10 or so very large clubs in the country, then there are a raft of clubs that are much of a muchness, and the ones getting the larger crowds are the ones doing well at any given time. Both sheff clubs Forest Boro Leicester WBA etc. Trophies (and ancient ones at that) are all niece and good, make for a nice CV, but I would not class Preston or Blackburn as big clubs, just ones that had good times in the early years of football. For me club seize is all about historical crowd average, and on that metre we are the 16th best supported English club. That is also for a club that's won virtually naff all, our potential has never really been explored, I recon if we had won as much as some of those other outfits we would have an average a couple of K higher at least.Fair points . It's because we haven't won anything in 50 years and have been fairly crap in that period, and it's frustration that a club that we all know is big with a rich history including 6 league titles, and a continuous large following, have been left to watch Leicester, forest under clough, show us all what can be done. Can one of you lot please try to explain the obsession with âsizeâ and âbig clubâ that seems to be so important to a lot of Sunderland supporters?
Iâm comfortable with what we are or arenât.
Not saying I agree for a minute but seeing as it seems such a âthingâ for many on here I would like you to know that outside of Durham probably a good 80% ( or more) of the country would have Newcastle down as the âbiggerâ of you two and it could be because they are ignorant of all the facts and is lazy .
Leicester ? âTin Pot? Small?
Whatever makes you feel good
Have a like1955![]()
What a load of shite WBA are a good size club you wankspannerWBA are a tiny club. Surrounded by villa Birmingham wolves etc. WBA don't have a decent fanbase.

Thanks for that , good post. It's because we haven't won anything in 50 years and have been fairly crap in that period, and it's frustration that a club that we all know is big with a rich history including 6 league titles, and a continuous large following, have been left to watch Leicester, forest under clough, show us all what can be done.
Just to add , along with your neighbours itâs always my favourite away, love the town, the folk on the whole and the stadium and we do drink in Sunderland when we play you. Thanks for that , good post.
The thing is , I reckon any knowledgeable football will acknowledge that Sunderland get exceptional gates most of the time. The stadium also screams âbig clubâ.
Dismissing other clubs and feeling the need to let the world know how âbigâ you are compared to most gets a bit weird and you and thereâs no need. Your crowds are there to see and you are a famous old club.
Not sure thatâs entirely trueThanks for that , good post.
