Chief Executive gives unusual 6 year contract to player, then quits, then becomes his agent then comes out with the infamous "he won't leave a penny behind quote" while he sits and says nowt and is still getting paid even after leaving us. Just never sat right with me.

of course byrne doing the negatiations then being his agent is wrong..its why football clubs employ DOFs now as well as head coaches and CEOs etc..so that decision making power on these things doesnt rest with one person..it cant rest with "managers" either because corruption was endemic there (at other clubs) when they did...

He was definitely close. I always felt his passing range was criminally underrated too. Never got the credit for being technically a decent footballer too.

STID suggested that only Jack Roswell didn't have a relegation clause in his contract. Cattermole will no doubt have been on a fair wedge in Championship, though.

Was supposedly still on between £30-40k in the champ/L1 so not unreasonable to think the contract was for £50-60k in the PL. Given how long he was here for there's probably not many, if any players who have made more money from SAFC.

There was definitely talk about him getting a call up to the initial 30 man group before the 2014 World Cup after we finished the season brilliantly under poyet. To be fair to him he was excellent in that run in, especially Man United away.
