of course byrne doing the negatiations then being his agent is wrong..its why football clubs employ DOFs now as well as head coaches and CEOs etc..so that decision making power on these things doesnt rest with one person..it cant rest with "managers" either because corruption was endemic there (at other clubs) when they did...Chief Executive gives unusual 6 year contract to player, then quits, then becomes his agent then comes out with the infamous "he won't leave a penny behind quote" while he sits and says nowt and is still getting paid even after leaving us. Just never sat right with me.
This. I know some people might not like it...He should have left us 2 seasons earlier than he did. He was rotten in League 1.
Lauded by plenty on hereGiving him a 6 year deal is definitely up there with one of the thickest things we've done
To our players, to opposing players, into touch, had it allHe was definitely close. I always felt his passing range was criminally underrated too. Never got the credit for being technically a decent footballer too.
Class player, loved him.Only turned 36 today.
I feel like he retired a decade ago.
STID suggested that only Jack Roswell didn't have a relegation clause in his contract. Cattermole will no doubt have been on a fair wedge in Championship, though.Could never get over the majority of our fans thinking he was loyal for sticking with us in L1 on prem wages
He was never close to an England call upHe was absolutely immense in thd League Cup final against City at Wembley until he ran out of gas, best player on the pitch. I think at one point he was close to an England call up.
Captained the U21s, absolutely superb playerHe was never close to an England call up
Probably right but I remember some of the papers even nationals mentioning the possibility. Think it was 2014 when he won the North East Player of the Year, he was excellent that season. He was never close to an England call up
You know nothing about football if you honestly believe that. Laughable. The worst Ā£ for Ā£ player Iāve seen at Sunderland. The 6 year deal was an absolute clusterfuck of an idea. Liability of a player.
He still does !He genuinely cared about the club too.
Shows how shit England were back then if Catts was anywhere close to a call up.He was absolutely immense in thd League Cup final against City at Wembley until he ran out of gas, best player on the pitch. I think at one point he was close to an England call up.
Was supposedly still on between Ā£30-40k in the champ/L1 so not unreasonable to think the contract was for Ā£50-60k in the PL. Given how long he was here for there's probably not many, if any players who have made more money from SAFC.STID suggested that only Jack Roswell didn't have a relegation clause in his contract. Cattermole will no doubt have been on a fair wedge in Championship, though.
There was definitely talk about him getting a call up to the initial 30 man group before the 2014 World Cup after we finished the season brilliantly under poyet. To be fair to him he was excellent in that run in, especially Man United away.Probably right but I remember some of the papers even nationals mentioning the possibility. Think it was 2014 when he won the North East Player of the Year, he was excellent that season.
