Lawrence Shankland

Well disagree. He's streets ahead of anything we have at the moment, is a proper goalscorer and last time I checked we needed someone to score goals in the number 9 position.

Yeah 130 in 194 sounds shite doesn't it.

How many did Hemir, Mayenda, Rusyn and Burstow hit last season?
They are shit but there's no point adding another one who isn't good enough to the squad.

Although he doesn't get my pulse racing, As a few have said, he looks to be a good finisher so you'd think he'd be capable of scoring some goals in our side.

The reported 5m would put us off instantly, and it seems to have done the same with other clubs.

He is good enough that's my opinion and clearly not yours. Strange people would turn their nose up at that kind of goal record when we need a goalscorer.

It doesn’t work like that though. Plenty players have brilliant records, particularly in Scotland, yet can’t replicate it anywhere else.

That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t score goals here but it also doesn’t guarantee he would.

Maybe someone like @Doberman or @Wearside Wanderer II might have a better idea of how good he is than I do, but I don’t think he looks good enough, personally.

I know a lad who watches loads of Scottish footy (don't know why he's weird) but he always says the clamour for Shankland on here is bizarre as he's pretty shit.
I have watched him loads (also a weirdo Scottish football watcher) and think he is a bit of a throughback old fashioned CF. The teams he does well at usually are set up with him as a focal point. He isn’t mobile enough for how Championship teams play.

I would take him if he was under £1mil as someone to bring on when you need a goal. £5mil would be ridiculous.

I get that, but the risk if you want to call it that is much less than signing the likes of Hemir, Rusyn, Mayenda and Burstow as this lad clearly knows where the goal is.
Still find it amazing that so many on here would turn their nose up at this.

I know nothing about Shankland but I see that he scores a lot and Rangers were linked. He may well score a lot in Scotland, but barring maybe 10 games a year, the standard in the Scottish Prem is probably League One level, so it would be a risk to spunk millions on a lad that is scoring regularly against the likes of Ross County and Livingston.

Oh aye I can see both sides of the argument like, certainly when you compare him to the shite we’ve signed previously.

I don’t think we’ll be in for him either way.

I wanted him a few years back when he was at Ayr(?) and seemed to be banging them in.

Not sure he's worth what Hearts would want mind. Looked completely out of his depth in his cameos at the Euros, which is understandable.

Just because he'd probably be better than we've got means nothing if he's a £5m black hole that doesn't improve us enough to justify the outlay.

Stats are brilliant, so league matches since 2017 he's got 130 in 194
Over 100 of those came in Championship, League 1, and League 2.

For his SPL goals, hearts got a ridiculous amount of penalties in 22/23. His record is good over the last 2 seasons, but almost 20 of his goals were penalties.

Edit: 100 of his career total, not since 2017, sorry

Listened to a few previews for Scotland prior to the Euro’s because I’m a bit boring like that, this lad featured heavily due to the injury they had to Dykes. The debate was this lad or Che Adams who ultimately started.

The consensus seemed to be that as a ‘poacher’ type who played up with a striker to do a bit of the donkey work for him, that he wasn’t what they needed, given Adams was preferred and he was shit at holding the ball up but would run the channels maybe gives you an idea.

We play with one up front because our depth is in midfield and threat comes from out wide. For that you need a striker who can get hold of it, will work a back line.. he isn’t this type as far as I can tell. The others we seem to have considered - Mendy, Zupotnik are.

Actually thought Geldhart made a decent fist of it when we did try another ‘profile’ of striker, but he was much better on the ball than Shankland and we still had Amad kicking about…

Yeah thats pretty much what my mate said, he's not a high tempo presser which is how we seem to be setting up under Le B

I don't want to knock him too much, as he does work hard, and links play pretty well these days.

He has just found his level. As a total bluenose he will be hoping for a move to Rangers. Probably a good move for him, as he has proven that he scores in Scotland.
