Lack of transfers concerning?

I honestly question whether Sunderland are an attractive proposition to top L1 players. Our fan base want to be back in the big time and see players as more disposable than the fans of perhaps less ambitious clubs.

There is so little affection for players, even the likes of Luke Oโ€™Nien who has been a model professional throughout his three years with us. Some players such as Lee Burge seem to be despised by a significant proportion of our fans.

I can well see how a top L1 player who knows his limitations would rather play for a smaller club where he will be popular and respected.

I'd say O'Nien is popular simply for being a consumate professional.

Fans are the last thing on their minds. They go where the money is.

Ipswich, Wigan and Charlton all making waves in the market. There is definitely something we are not being told or drip fed. The biggest clue was Leadbitters partung words of asking the fans to get behind the young lads. So what is the ambition of KLD or is he hindered by mutual decision making with the shareholders ? It sadly feels that way .

They need players more than we do. We have a better, stronger foundation than they do. Thatโ€™s what youโ€™ve not been told.

What an absolute load of crap.

Of course playing for Sunderland would be an attractive proposition for L1 players. But if they are offered more money elsewhere they'll follow the money.

Just what I said in #425. The only reason why we havenโ€™t had the best is because no owner has been willing to shell out. They would rather have 3 crap players for ยฃ1m than one good player for ยฃ3m. But KLD is different.

Charlton already looked decent by the end of last season and they have added. A few more games and they'd have made the play offs. Wigan were in turmoil but improved dramatically and have added. Ipswich are a sizebale club who looked weak at times, they've bought well.

I remember Oxford finishing strong the season before last and no one had them down as promotion contenders the next season. They reached Wembley and were clearly a better side than Wycombe over the season. We are relying on the kids and a few of senior pros. I hope they click and these foundations are stronger than they have been for the last 3 years, but they don't look like it to me. I really hope you are right.

4 or 5 real quality players could change the dynamic of the squad, but I can totally understand fans frustrations because we seem to go down this road every season of being slow out of the blocks, then we hope that some good will by playing the waiting game, only to end up with some distinctly average players.

I look at our squad from when we first came down 3 seasons ago and even with KDL coming in, I don't see a real shift in the kind of players we are going for (not currently anyway).

Maybe the other shareholders don't share the young billionaires aspirations?....I know he wants a long term approach to how the club is run, but I can't see how you can plan for anything like that at this level and when the transfers we have made have been over 25 (apart from a loan).

I'm just not seeing a real effort from the club to get us out of this league with 2 weeks till the start of the season, with the manager making remarks about how its pointless to work on tactics and having sleepless nights!...It's all pointing to yet another disappointing season, unless there's a huge upturn in events in the next fortnight.

*soz for the long post, far too many cans. I'm off to wet me bed.

We've quite literally been told that we'll be using young players, that the way the club operates will be changing.

Still got another 6 weeks of transfer window open. I knew we wouldn't get all the players in against Wigan. But hopefully by end of window we will have a decent squad and add to it in January.

Exactly.

Itโ€™s gonna be another tough season unless the squad improves in quality. I donโ€™t think anyone Now feels we will run away with the league. Another season of ups and downs and scrambling wins at best it seems.

Think it might be too late for Johnson by then though if they donโ€™t get off to a good start and I do think those sleepless nights are him panicking about his own job. 2 hugely important weeks ahead..
William Storey would have had our team sorted by now.

All the players would have COVID though ๐Ÿคฃ

No I understand that - I mean we don't want to be offering the likes of Connor McLaughlin 2 year deals now, even if it means we need to play O'Nien or Winchester for a couple of games at right back.

One year deal, yeh, fine. But we shouldn't be hamstringing ourselves for the future.
Short deals on small money however nice it sounds will never attract players good enough for promotion. We have been in similar positions before, not as desperate as now, but it didnโ€™t work then either. I am not advocating being feckless but, like all things in life you haveto be sensible.

I understand the frustration as I am the same however I won't have that opinion until the transfer window has closed mate
