Is it like the one in Newcastle where you stink of cooking when you come out?Ate in the Botanist last week and thought it was nothing special. Wont be going back.
I don't believe itI’ve had the veggie pie with celeriac mash a few times in the Tavern and it was unbelievably nice.
It's just the way it is unfortunately in Sunderland people are used to drinking in dives so when a new bar opens and it's a bit more expensive they start whinging. No one is forcing them to go but they'll still complainLong before these two bars opened ( and the Muddler) it was anticipated that the prices would be on par with the sister establishments in Newcastle and thus higher than some other places in town.
Why are people still moaning about it?
Just don’t go.
End of.
Been to a few around the country and always thought they were a bit ‘chainy’ and bang average.
Nearly paid that for a pint of Jakehead in therekeel tavern is the same people as the redhouse in newcastle. pick your pie, mash, peas and gravy for £12.50. very nice as well
"The price of everything and the value of nothing" springs to mind.My mate and their lass went to the Botanist last week and they had fish and chips with mushy peas along with a couple of pints of lager each.
He wasn't happy lashing out well over 50 quid for the pleasure.
Don’t bother unless you want to stand 4 deep in a bar watching some barman taking ages to make two cocktails@chriswallace85 any advice on the Botanist for those who might want a look in after the match on Saturday?
That's The Botanist for ya like.Don’t bother unless you want to stand 4 deep in a bar watching some barman taking ages to make two cocktails
I noticed ya comment on the other thread. Did ya walk in or were you booked?I was in a window seat last Saturday and it was funny watching people beg to come in. Reminded me of when Steve Strange wouldn’t let @Sneech into the Blitz club back in the 80s when he held up a mirror to him and said ‘Well, would you let yourself in?’
Just walked in mateThat's The Botanist for ya like.
I've always thought these sorta places should have an express zone of the bar for people wanting straight forward pints & bottles.

The early bird gets the wormAhhh.
It was about 9pm when we tried.
Good luck the one in Newcastle is always a pain , as others say it’s the fannying on making cocktailsI was in the botanist on Saturday, just in the bar.
The main issues I had were the time to get served which could take ages , obviously issues that can be fixed though
Good luck getting in.Good luck the one in Newcastle is always a pain , as others say it’s the fannying on making cocktails
