There was some parade of people on stilts before the fireworks (which looked mint btw).
But it led to loads of families with kids just stuck outside sheepfolds whilst some ignored the hi-viz people and made a dash for it

Oh, was it the builders who closed the bridge and had men in hi viz jackets stopping people crossing?
Think they are the names of all the ships that were built on the Wear.
The bridge wouldn't have been built due to the word cycling and the hard-on it gives the dafties that vote for them. Seen a council meeting where their woefully inadequate whopper in charge of the council didn't know the difference between capital and revenue expenditure.
The council who put the event on that, part 1 by all accounts, was a great success?

yes, it has 15 mins before and after the fireworks where they are limiting people crossing for obvious reasons. It is open the rest of the time. Based on the earlier fireworks being in the middle of St Mary's Boulevard gives a view of everything.

From what I saw those at Sheepfolds might have had a better view of the display.

Was it not just shut during the display? It looked like the fireworks were set off from on the actual bridge ?

Nah, the display was done from the south bank of the river just upstream from where the new bridge is. Where they’re building the new park and stuff. They also had some going off from the top of City hall and one of the other building.
The display started at 1830 but they stopped people crossing from about 10 past for the parade thing, then when that finished people started crossing and then got stopped a little further and told to turn around.
I’m not being a scrooge, but the organisation/communication wasn’t great. The display was good though.
