Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Why wouldn't they? KS and Sheepfolds are 5 mins apart instead of 15. They are visible to one another, it's just like walking from 3 Stories to KS. That's the whole point of the bridge. Where have you been?

You sound like a tight arse.
It’s more like double the distance of 3 stories to KS but never mind that. I go out in town a canny bit and I can’t see us ever making that detour mid-route. If the stables had some great appeal maybe, but it’s like a school dinner hall selling overpriced Vaux.

You must’ve went to a canny school. Can’t see any resemblance at all to a school dinner hall and The Stables personally.

You do know it sells food n'all?

Do you think people are going to start including the sheepfolds as part of their town route cos there’s a bridge there now?
The only realistic scenario I can envisage would be to start there, maybe to get some food, then cross the bridge to start the town route. We’d just get a taxi to do that if there was no bridge so it might save a coupon for quid, but that’s probably offset by the extortionate drink prices in the stables. It’s not like you’re going for a few cheap ones to start the night off is it?
Of course. Why wouldn't they? It takes 5 minutes of a nice scenic trot instead of 20 now (the 20 minute route partly being through an industrial estate)

People will just include it in the town route,as its only a two minute walk now. You dont have to start or finish there. Just pop across the brridge for some food,or a pint of pit pony. Its a class addition
It’s on a limb though, that’s the issue for me. I get annoyed if someone tries to plan a pub crawl that doesn’t follow the most efficient route between pubs. Going off on a dog leg and coming back the same way half an hour later seems like a waste of valuable drinking time. What we might do though is get a taxi to the stables and walk over the bridge to town, rather than getting a taxi straight to town.

High ceiling, big long tables?

Yes but I don’t eat out so that’s of little interest to me.

It's only for 4 days and the path definitely needs it as well. There's patches missing all over the place and hopefully it'll be a long smooth stretch again

I agree. Just want to know if I can avoid the area and tell the missus she'll have to get the bus/metro home after work.

Did anyone actually make the 20 minute journey before the bridge was there? You’re standing in keel square, you can throw your cap over 6 pubs, but you’d rather walk over there and back then go to those? Time will tell I suppose.

People like nice things. Sheepfolds is nice, and it's a destination in itself. It'll do very well because of the bridge, it brings it into the town centre. Cutting ten mins off the walk is huge.

Still feels nothing like a school dinner hall mind, and inside the main bar there are plenty other tables in addition to the longer ones. Not to mention that’s just one part of the Stables offering as well.

You’re just ignoring how far it was to walk across all the roads, cross the bridge and walk around to the sheepfolds?. The bridge is straight across and links the heart of the city centre keel square etc by a five minute walk instead of a 15-20 minute detour. That’s makes a huge difference.

We are starting at the sheepfolds on Saturday afternoon then heading to the town from there. Doubt we would have done that normally at this time of year.
This is a classic smb take on things thinking that nobody will do this because you won’t.

I find the sheepfolds a bit meh tbh. I live just down the road and I’ve only been 3 times since it opened.

I think it's a stand alone destination at the mo . The bridge will help it keep busy with good access . Another pub that side would help maybe . All my mates love what they've done but we've been in once .

That works both ways really
we all want stuff than more people than not would use . Putting pros and cons forward isn't negative .

Maybe I need to explore the rest of the offering and report back then?

I’m not ignoring that. I’m saying people didn’t include it as part of a route when you had all that carry on, but I can’t see many more including it now either. Maybe my opinion is skewed from being a northsider and it being within walking distance for me. Maybe people from the south side will nip over the bridge to see what it’s like?

I literally said people will do that and so might I.
