Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Because there’s another bridge nearby that does the same job. It’s not like it’s the Tyne Tunnel and it’s saving people a huge amount of time. It saving you 10 minutes walk. However, since I said that I learned that we (Sunlun folk) didn’t pay for it, in which case they might as well have built it regardless of usage.
It opens up all of the room around the Riverside which is prime for investment now
Do you think people are going to start including the sheepfolds as part of their town route cos there’s a bridge there now?
The only realistic scenario I can envisage would be to start there, maybe to get some food, then cross the bridge to start the town route. We’d just get a taxi to do that if there was no bridge so it might save a coupon for quid, but that’s probably offset by the extortionate drink prices in the stables. It’s not like you’re going for a few cheap ones to start the night off is it?
Yes, because it's an easy 5 minute quick walk instead of a 25 minute walk.
Should have been named the Graeme Miller Bridge.

It’s more like double the distance of 3 stories to KS but never mind that. I go out in town a canny bit and I can’t see us ever making that detour mid-route. If the stables had some great appeal maybe, but it’s like a school dinner hall selling overpriced Vaux.

With the new bridge open we will sometimes be having food at one of the Sheepfolds restaurants before shows at the Empire because it is now so much easier to walk between the two areas.

It's smart as out Sheepfolds. Nothing like my old school dinner hall and they serve more than Vaux.

Anyone drove over Wearmouth bridge today? Path resurfacing starting on there for the rest of the week. They were start to close lanes on the approach roads when I went over at 9am, causing chaos up West Wear Street.
Why do they need to shut the road to resurface the paths
Helff and safety gone mad

Haven't read full thread . I'd say it's main aim is leisure . Encouraging movement of people, connecting the areas . Saying that it won't be mega busy . It's not been done to take footfall from the Bridge other than matches really.

Fast walker ? Nearest bar would be Keel tavern. No way you'll walk to stables in 2 minutes . People moan about the bridge vaults in high St
Bridge Vaults thats a 9 day Camel ride down High Street.

We'll be doing the same when we've got people stopping over.. taxi to sheepfolds, dinner in there , walk over the bridge and into the pubs round keel square

I had a walk between Sheepfolds and over to the area near the Empire yesterday and it is now so much easier

After a lot of food and drink we never fancy walking too far so have dodged Sheepfolds but that will change now.

Saved a load of time getting back from match.

My only criticism is the benches, which now need security people standing at the end to stop people walking into them. Career opportunity for the early leavers?

They were there on the way to the match as well. Can't understand them being needed 😄
