Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Anyone drove over Wearmouth bridge today? Path resurfacing starting on there for the rest of the week. They were start to close lanes on the approach roads when I went over at 9am, causing chaos up West Wear Street.

It's only for 4 days and the path definitely needs it as well. There's patches missing all over the place and hopefully it'll be a long smooth stretch again

I’ve nearly went flying a few times over the years kicking a hole or a little lip. It’s been a bit of a mess for years now.

Why's it only useful 20 days a year? It's not just for the football, you know.
Because there’s another bridge nearby that does the same job. It’s not like it’s the Tyne Tunnel and it’s saving people a huge amount of time. It saving you 10 minutes walk. However, since I said that I learned that we (Sunlun folk) didn’t pay for it, in which case they might as well have built it regardless of usage.

Nah. People don't even walk to 10 minutes to use Sunniside

Yes. People will, of course, use it every day but they could use the other bridge instead.
They could with adding in the rather large diversion. Didn't have you down as a fan of big unnecessary walks like but fair enough.
i think you're slightly underselling the link between the hub of the city centre & the opening of commercial/housing ventures.
He's just being daft really.

Do you think people are going to start including the sheepfolds as part of their town route cos there’s a bridge there now?
The only realistic scenario I can envisage would be to start there, maybe to get some food, then cross the bridge to start the town route. We’d just get a taxi to do that if there was no bridge so it might save a coupon for quid, but that’s probably offset by the extortionate drink prices in the stables. It’s not like you’re going for a few cheap ones to start the night off is it?

Just thinking it will be canny quiet non match days as its only a short cut to the sol and sheepfolds at mo .
I hope they did their calculations properly! If the resonant frequency matches the natural frequency the amplitude of the oscillations reaches a theoretical max of infinity
I'd love my name on a disaster plaque in town

Why wouldn't they? KS and Sheepfolds are 5 mins apart instead of 15. They are visible to one another, it's just like walking from 3 Stories to KS. That's the whole point of the bridge. Where have you been?

You sound like a tight arse.

Which is what I’ve been saying. Even when they build the houses down there, what percentage of new residents do they think will be walking over to work in the town centre?

People will just include it in the town route,as its only a two minute walk now. You dont have to start or finish there. Just pop across the brridge for some food,or a pint of pit pony. Its a class addition

Haven't read full thread . I'd say it's main aim is leisure . Encouraging movement of people, connecting the areas . Saying that it won't be mega busy . It's not been done to take footfall from the Bridge other than matches really.

Fast walker ? Nearest bar would be Keel tavern. No way you'll walk to stables in 2 minutes . People moan about the bridge vaults in high St
