Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

It's rubbish like this that doesn't help , so we should plan the construction of the bridge for a event that wasn't announced till after construction started

I've read quite a few comments online , I'm not saying its true mind, that the RFU covered the costs of that

£28,000 is fuck all in the grand scheme of this.

The positive publicity around the city on that day was absolutely priceless

I wonder how much it compares to other council expenditure, like cleaning up the city after an anti immigration riot
Yea I fully agree and the whole event was really positive, was talking to some Americans saying this was the first day the bridge was open

All were loving the party the city put on and that exposure worldwide is priceless

Sunderland may get a lot of repeat visitors due to an enjoyable visit for the RWC. That may even include plenty from the region who have never been and had a positive experience. I don’t think the same would be true if people had traipsed across the Wearmouth Bridge from the fan park rather than a quick stroll across the footbridge. Well worth the money.

I'm so positive about the city but some poeple won't have a bad word said about the place, it's a weird cult.
I genuinely think that there’s a lot of good stuff happening too? but if there isn’t room for transparency and accountability, (and everyone has to join the circle-jerk or be pilloried) that progress will not be maximised.

You cannot say a bad word about Labour on here, you should know that better than anyone.

It does feel like that my friend! (Even when actually giving balanced credit for things that have been positive).

It’s a parochial, ‘town’ attitude which ultimately will limit exploitation of the wonderful opportunities that currently exist for the City.

Can someone throw up the link to the release which stated the date the bridge is/was due to open please? tyia.

From the architects themselves:
"The bridge is now closed to allow the final phase of cosmetic works to be completed before it is officially opened for day-to-day use this autumn"

This is the plan for the next 10 years , it's an indicative plan where things may happen due to funding, etc

The council never give actual dates for things opening for a number of reasons

Look at the culture house, we have no firm date at all
