Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

It does feel like that my friend! (Even when actually giving balanced credit for things that have been positive).

It’s a parochial, ‘town’ attitude which ultimately will limit exploitation of the wonderful opportunities that currently exist for the City.
Its mental this place for it. Anyway hopefully done soon and open so i get the drone over for the finished shots.

Knowing Northumbria Police they will open it exclusively for the mags for their ease and we will have to walk across Wearmouth Bridge, past St Peter’s and Monkwearmouth Station to get to the stadium. They will also block pavements with police vans to make it even more difficult and shove you away with extreme force into the road if you get too close to them.
Wonder which way they'll bring the maggots in. Previous years they've had at Peter's all blocked off and walked them around the back and where the stables are, through the car park and to the north upper turnstiles. Can't imagine they'll be able to do that this time.

boro games they had the entirety of sheepfolds blocked off, hay street, the lot. we had to get back into the town by going down to the wheatsheaf, and walk into oncoming traffic back along in front of the victory/fans musuem. no lane closures, nothing.

Not the plods finest hour

I remember seeing something that mentioned being open in August but can't find it now. Even so a couple of months probably isn't uncommon for a project like this.

Sunderland may get a lot of repeat visitors due to an enjoyable visit for the RWC. That may even include plenty from the region who have never been and had a positive experience. I don’t think the same would be true if people had traipsed across the Wearmouth Bridge from the fan park rather than a quick stroll across the footbridge. Well worth the money.
Exactly. I didn’t go so like many only can go off the photos but it looked tremendous all lit up with a direct route to the stadium in the distance, whilst providing lovely riverside views. Being cramped on the Wearmouth Bridge breathing in fumes off the Fab56 bus is hardly comparable.

Going to be a nightmare for cyclists week commencing 13/10 as foot path on the Wearmouth Bridge (St Peters Side) will be closed.

Where have I said they dont'?

The City Centre has improved massively, but they've missed the deadline on opening a vital part of the cities new infrastructure. Surely you can see that?

That assumes that the rugby World Cup date was known prior to starting or contracting the construction contract. The council presumably have asked the contractor to accelerate the contract to hit the date (assuming the contractor was willing to do so) however the cost may have been too expensive to do so? Beyond that once it’s contracted the council can force the contractor to move more quickly to hit the date.

The problem in all this appears that everyone is just making assumptions without knowing any of the detail.

Clearly the overall development is delayed as I am sure it was originally planned to complete in 2024, but whether the construction contract is delayed is unknown.
