"During VolkerGround Engineering’s first visit in July 2023, the team constructed a single 880/750mm diameter rotary bored preliminary test pile, on each side of the river (North Pier and South Pier). The piles were subjected to a 14MN test load, the equivalent of 238 African Elephants!"

So you climbed up the Wear bridge to get to the top, got covered in anti vandal paint, went to court and got compensation because you got covered in the paint and got time off work in the process? To get to the top
The Tacoma Narrows 1940's -first saw that film in the 60's - they drove across it because it only happened in high winds and hadn't collapsed the times before. But it did eventually.Logon or register to see this image
It's a week later though so must not feel like that target is manageableSurely if temporarily open it should be open for the West Ham game ( failing that the Brentford game) .
The city is a traditional footballing city and as first game back in the prem surely it would be seen as symbolic.
Is it sad that I'm not going to the game but I want to be one of the first people across itKeel Crossing to temporarily open for Rugby World Cup opener
Rugby World Cup fans will be among the first to use Sunderland’s new Keel Crossing, after plans reveal the bridge will temporarily open for the international sporting event.
The Keel Crossing will welcome the public for the tournament’s opening game, a clash between England and the USA, enabling fans to easily make their way to the Stadium of Light for the event on 22 August 2025.
The bridge will open for the full day, providing direct access between the city centre and the Stadium, allowing fans to enjoy the full event experience. At the end of the day, the bridge will be closed to allow the final phase of cosmetic works to be completed before it is officially opened for day-to-day use.
Work is progressing well at Keel Crossing, with all but the final painting and lighting installation works set to be completed by contractor VolkerStevin ahead of the prestigious Rugby World Cup event.
