Looking at the photos of the Mid section and the South Section on the barge I'd say the smaller section in the plan above is part of 1 large south section now, I saw it posted that they were 105m and 63m. Its 4 lifts instead of 5 now which would make sense and there doesn't appear to be a temporary pier on the south side for it to sit on to be welded like the North Side.
Does that mean there will be no expansion joints over all that length? Can't see it being all welded together!

It could be a single bridge deck or split to allow for thermal expansion. Steel behaves differently to concrete and you can manage roller connections on the piers more easily with the expansion joint being located at on the the abutments.

I’d need to see details how they’ve designed this.

Sorry for not trawling through the thread but when will this be opening?

Is it this year or next? TIA
It's meant to be next summer. I wonder if it's ahead of schedule though? If all the sections are installed in the next few days/weeks, I dunno how it'll take another year to finish it.

It needs approval from the FB comments committee and any changes they suggest need to be implemented. So far we are training two tug of war teams who are going to stretch it as it's not wide enough and we have to order in 100 floating bouncy castles from China in case anybody decides to jump off.

I reckon the rental cost of having that massive crane sitting about meant they were in a hurry to get all of it done. But once all the lifts are finished and the crane is gone they still have all the footpaths and approach routes to do, and with no big crane cost to hurry things along it’ll go in to next year.

It'll take a while for me to run the tape measure over it to make sure all the bits and bobs are in the correct place.

Apologies.

Tin hat on - I think it looks a bit uninspiring.

I much prefer their

Hopefully ours can be jazzed up with some nice artwork.

And fancy lights, lit up Red & White for Sunderland home games is a must.
Its gonna be all signing all dancing interactive / 5G and all that

'Architectural lighting will illuminate the exterior of the bridge and smart features such as augmented and virtual reality will create an interactive public space and an educational and tourist attraction.'

Champion.

That will create a stunning backdrop if it is illuminated Red & White come the dark nights and later kick offs when we play at home.
