It's just a bridge. It goes from one side to the other. If we had money for the spectacular it would look different, it's all about functionality and it's bang on

Completely disagree. We are building one or two other bridges across the Wear? If we haven't got the resources, let's bin one of them and opt for quality not quantity.

Its a foot bridge to regenerate the sheepfolds and connect it with the town. I dont know what you want to see here? The low level one is not due until the end of the decade -
 
Make it a full on cage and close the other bridge to pedestrians and it might deter people from being on the wrong side of the railings
People adamant of hurting themselves will carry on doing so but these iconic structures with the people on them draw people in

You are right suspect thats the reason for the design. Seems to be the way of the world unfortunately.

Don’t think there has been any firm commitment to the other bridge as far as I’ve read. This one is the only one committed to be delivered at present.
