Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

I like "The New Footbridge". As time passes, later generations will drop the word "New" from the name leaving just "The Footbridge" which many will be calling it already. If they build another one, that will be "The New Footbridge" and this will be "The Other Footbridge" or "The Old Footbridge".

Simple.

Might as well call it by a number. Bridge number six. Cox Green bridge isn’t included in the count.

agreed. i was furious at the time, i even wrote to my MP about it.

its an utter shite name, always has been always will be.

It should have been the Joseph Swan Bridge.. the bloke invented the lightbulb and was born about 200 yards away
Other than the north east, everybody else in the world thinks Edison invented the light bulb, sorry but true. A university or educational building would be better named after Swan than a bridge. I don't mind the name now but just call it the Spire Bridge,

Most brdges have very mundane names, take the A19 Hylton bridge, just says what it does on the tin. Most are just called after the area they join. I think the Cox Green footbridge is as mundane as it gets. So should be the Sheepfolds bridge and then nobody gets upset as they didn't call it the Gangplank of Light or whatever.
