£490 but I'm expecting to get 300 for my tokina. I won't miss the ultra wide angle and my 24-105 would be wide enough for me

Not so bad then marra. No doubt we'll crack on the morra about the 6d. I know little of it.

Ross marra, am gan be honest with ye; you should really really really assess your needs before committing. The gulf in image quality between the 400d and the 7d is massive, absolutely massive. The gulf in image quality between the 7d and the 6d is tiny in comparison. The 7d is a quality camera and you will never ever need 'the next level' (can the 6d even be called that?) after it ,unless you start to professionally produce images, in the same way Andy has done.

One of the things I reflect on when using my kit is the fact I didn't get the 5dII; thank fuck I say! ff and wicked low light would have cost me nigh on £600 more and would have been utterly wasted.

Tog gear is an addiction for the enthusiast, a sick marketing ploy by the manufacturers and it does not need to be like that. I fear you may be wasting your money, far far too soon.

I'll hoy the 7d in the car; tis there if you want it marra  btw, am not selling it any more.. not that it would have appealed to you and your VAT exploits.

oh, is Craig gan with his own pals like? worra bell!

I agree with this btw... I NEED a FF camera due to shooting weddings in low light (churches are very dark sometimes). 7D up to and inc ISO 1600 is extremely good... above 1600? Well it's a bit shit tbh.

Never really understood people buying FF when it's a hobby tbh... I've said that on here a few times before, IMO a FF camera is either for a pro, a VERY good amateur who shoots low light stuff like gigs etc, or someone with too much money.

I'd happily shoot a 7D at ISO 400 all day long... at ISO 800 it's still top drawer.

I jumped from a 450d to a 7d and was sooooo impressed. It's only become time to upgrade because shooting at ISO 4000 and coming out with grainy images aint good for my business... the upgrade will save me the hassle of hours of noise reduction and makes sense. For most people a 7D is more camera than they'd ever need.

Just my 2 pence worth mind and if people have the cash there's worse things to spend money on than a slightly better camera :)

For me, there's a 190 cash difference, that's close enough to class them as direct rivals.

For what I like/want to shoot the advantages the 6D has over 7D out weight the advantages the 7D holds over the 6D.

Not to mention IMO my f4 walk around lens is a little slow for a crop. The higher ISO performance will speed it up and kill any temptation to move to a f2.8, which would cost more than the 190 quid extra I'm spending on the 6D

Where have you seen a 6D for only £190 more than a 7D out of interest? On HDEW the 6D is £1419 & the 7D £725... that's a hell of a lot more at almost double the cost.

You could buy the 7D and the f/2.8 17-55mm for the price of the 6D... I'd say that would be a better combo than an F/4 lens and a higher ISO. Although I'm basing that on HDEW prices and maybe you've seen it priced lower elsewhere?

Sorry, I meant for my personal circumstances as I'd also be selling my Tokina for £300 (which wouldn't fit or I'd no longer need)

the 6D isn't a pro camera, its in the same league as the 7D. It's an enthusiasts camera. One geared for IQ, one geared for speed/action.

the 6D is £1298 @ procamerashop.

Cheap for the 6d like, that. Did some reading last night and the 6d looks cracking mind.

plus further discounts of mine!

Just seems daft for me to go for a camera which specialises in sports/wildlife when I never shoot that! I'd get more from the strengths of the 6D than I would from the 7D, for IMO, little extra.

I agree marra, BUT its not specialises as such; it's more, if you do sports/wildlife then the 7d is the camera best suited. Jus sayin'.

I obviously wouldn't upgrade from the 7d to the 6d as it makes little sense; but it makes tonnes of sense doing it from the 400d.

HDEW dont deal in grey imports do they? That 7D new is a great price

Not 100% sure exactly but I know Canon will honour their 1 year warranty so I'm presuming it's more legit than Panamoz, Digital Rev etc. Not that I think there's anything wrong with the latter 2 companies like... it's just if my camera develops a fault I know I can send it to Canon in Glasgow and get it back within a few days, where as with the latter 2 it's a case of sending it to Hong Kong and waiting weeks probably to get it back (plus paying a bomb to send it there)... when I might have a wedding or booking in that time it's worth paying the extra £200 for piece of mind.

So yeah they seem a better option IMO but could see why others might prefer to go for Panamoz, Digital Rev, or Pro Camera Shop etc.

Oh yeah and HDEW do an extra 2 years warranty included in the price albeit through them not canon, so you get a 3 year warranty which is great

Ahh right I see what you mean.

I think you've made up your mind like so I'll not try and convince you otherwise and there's no doubt you'll LOVE the 6D... if you bought a 7D and always thought 'I wish I'd bought the 6D' then it's worth paying the extra now to avoid that feeling further down the line :)

Pro camera shop do a 1 year manufacturers warranty on certain products, I've emailed them today to see if the 6D is eligible

Its a tempting offer thats certain. Im still plodding along after 2 years with my 500D and wondering whether its worth upgrading my glass before I upgrade the camera.
As much as I see people rave about the 6D I still think the 7D will be the most I will ever require, as I dont think it will offer me anything more personally than the 7D
Ill probably end up buying the tokina lens from one of the lads on here and look at upgrading my camera later (unless I win a few quid on the lottery)

EDIT: Im assuming they are grey goods as they dont qualify for the Canon cashback offer

I'd double check it's not a warranty with them as a lot of these grey importers say 'manufacturers warranty' when in fact it's not with canon but the company selling the camera.

I'd go for the 7D over the new glass personally... I know that jumping from the 450D to the 7D was a massive difference and something I'm glad I did. With regards upgrading the glass you could always then save up and buy something like the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 & Canon 50mm prime for £250 each further down the line

Probably yeah but with the VAT paid on them which gives them a valid Canon receipt / warranty.

I know Digital Rev mark their packages as things like 'toy parts' to avoid the VAT charges and that's why they don't have a valid VAT receipt and Canon won't touch them

Already got the Canon 50mm 1.4 love it. 2 EF-S lenses (the 15-55 isnt too bad and I tend to use my 100-300 USM over the 55-250 with IS)... oh you have really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons now.. price is only £700 till 30th Jan

Go on buy it... you know it makes sense ;)

Just bit the bullet. Pick up on Friday when I'm in London on business anyway

Nice one... am sure you'll be very happy with the 6D like!

You got any lenses lined up or have you already got enough primes or L lenses to cope with the step up to FF?

I've just bit the bullet too and bought the Tamron 24-70mm VC f/2.8 for £900 which takes my spending to £3k in two days

Got it from HDEW, the warranty twisted my arm.

I've got the Canon 50mm f1.4 and the canon 24-105mm f4 so enough to get me away.

I'd be tempted to go for the reasonably priced Canon 85mm f1.8 for IQ OR extend my range a little and go for the Canon 135mm f2, either will be a few months away though.

Ahh good call getting it from HDEW I reckon... I might give them a ring and ask for some money off my 5D MK III seeing as I bigged up their warranty

Looks like you have a good coverage of focal lenghts there... I'm keen to get an ultra wide prime but something tells me my buying splurge is well and truely over for a while! Wife knows I've order the 5D but I need to warn her about the lens as it's being delivered to her work... something tells me I won't get away with any other purchases for some considerable time :-(
