Just logged into my outlook.com (hotmail) account, and opened the word app. Seems to be free? Links to my OneDrive account too, for saving etc.

If your using outlook then office online will do fine for most office use. If not you always download and use open office etc for more complex tasks.

No, its all online. Just like Google's one via Drive.

I suspect someone already worked out my mistake, could I be talking about Office Online, rather than O365?
