Not going to lie, this line of reasoning is one of the weirdest ones. Why should anyone be happy with anything that makes it more likely towns around Newcastle become little more than dormitories?

I agree, too often investment in the North-East is code for investment in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Newcastle has always been a bigger, more important place than Sunderland but the gap has widened massively over the last forty years. Newcastle doesn't need huge investment and redevelopment, it's already had it and continues to have it. We are crying out for someone to give the city a boost. I was in town for the first time in months this week and walking around was enough to drive you to tears. The state we were in was bad enough but how we'll look after covid-19 has passed is a frightening thought.
I appreciate mad cyril's point of view but it's very easy to be magnanimous as a Newcastle man. We know the Saudis investment would not have helped beyond the toon.

This is a smokescreen. They were buying the club as an investment and yes, would have improved training facilities and the ground. There may have been a direct flight to Riyadh added to NCL but they were hardly going to transform Newcastle into Manhattan!
Like I say Rueben Brothers involvement suggests to me there'd more investment in the area.

I like George Caulkin more than Luke Edwards. But, in this takeover George Caulkin has been reporting from information from Stavely, the no red flags, imminent side of the arguement (Nothing wrong with that he had an inside source).
Edwards has never been as confident and he clearly doesn’t trust Staveley (Nothing wrong with that he probably had a different source).
But, despite what happened yesterday they are still praising George Caulkin and believing what he’s saying while crucifying Luke Edwards.
The inference in this tweet from Edwards is clear.
personally I wouldn’t trust Wor Mandy 🙄 as far as I could chuck her Botox

Janey, the proposed Saudi takeover really brought out the true black and white colours of the Mag media in our NE area-Caulkin, Bird, Hardy, Edwards (Orient fan who married into a black and white supporting family), Hope etc. made it quite obvious how excited they were at the prospect of THEIR club being the richest in the world, being able to cover them in their new era along with all this arrogant, juvenile (professional journalists?) #cans shite-it was beyond embarrassing.
Over the last few years little has been questioned by these people with regards to Sunderland ending up in the third tier. Their general disinterest (and quiet glee) at our demise being absolutely blatant.
The Saudis even allegedly murdered one of their own profession, Jamal Khashoggi, yet did this dampen their enthusiasm to be taken over by an obviously corrupt and medieval regime? Nah........

I think they’d have probably followed suit and did similar to what was invested in Manchester with the City buy out.

Key word being "think". It think it was just bluster to get good PR. This is the sovereign wealth fund, designed to generate good PR and income for Vision 2030 they are not philanthropists. Meanwhile, as mentioned before, they are increasing VAT in Saudi and reducing benefits.

All so they can say; of course we didn't chop up a journalist, we are normal people we love football and own a club in England we even bought a couple of plots of land there too. If we were so bad would so many be waving our flags and watching our football team?

not all Newcastle fans live in Newcastle nor Sunderland fans in Sunderland. I spend a hell of a lot of time down Seaburn / Roker so would welcome any big investment in that area. I’m sure a lot of Sunderland fans who live closer to Newcastle would welcome investment. That’s before potential employment boosts.

I live in Newcastle, I couldn't give a shit. If you believe it was anything more than a PR exercise which would make the Reubens some extra cash you've been fooled.

Is more high rise student accommodation what Newcastle residents want? Not this one.

The more I see on this, the more astounded I am.

Apparently the Premier League expecting the Crown Prince who is the Chairman of PIF to fall under their owners tests is offensive to the Saudis.

Then the conspiracy theory part: "Let’s be absolutely crystal clear – if the PL wished to block the bid on the basis of TV piracy they could have done so and months ago."

Completely ignoring the possibility that the Premier League were leveraging owning the club to get the Saudis to pay up for TV rights.

Almost every club in the Premier League is worth so much because of the Premier League brand. The sale of TV rights around the world allow these clubs to earn a fortune and somehow Newcastle fans have convinced themselves that piracy of the TV rights shouldn't be a big deal. Not only that but the Premier League are clearly in the pocket of Qatar because BeIn do pay for the rights.

Absolutely incredulous. But at least that circus up the road has no shortage of contortionists. Every one of the fuckers have somehow twisted this into some epic conspiracy and self pity show.

It’s probably been said, but just to expand a little on this...

The Premier League IS little more than a co-operative for the sale of broadcast rights.

That’s it.

That’s all they really do.

The FA runs the game. Almost anything else you see to do with Premier League clubs is just that - run by the Premier League clubs themselves.

The actual PL itself is just there to bundle and sell broadcasts worldwide. That’s why it was set up 30 years ago and that’s why it still exists.

It’s the #1 consideration in anything.

Approving a spot at the table for one of the guys who actively steals your only product and wants to continue to do so?

As we say down in Aust... “yeah.... nah.”

Me too. Now lived in Newcastle longer than I did in Sunderland. The kind of shite Lego housing blocks they were looking to build isn’t what the city needs.

whole areas such as the Westend is dropping to bits.

Oh I totally get that they’ve not given us anywhere near the focus our knackered situation deserves.
To be fair though in this story Edwards has been much more cynical about it happening which is why he’s had loads of abuse while George Caulkin has had them hook line and sinker because of his links to Stavely.
that’s all I was trying to point out.
Right about Stavely Janey. She is a barnacle, clinging to people and deals and creaming off them. I cant imagine how she was able to do this when she was younger and attractive. It is really baffling.

Not sure I'd listen to Edward's or Caulkin or anyone else actually. They are fed titbits possibly, but that's it. The wheels turn in secret.

In the end, it all depends on the Premier League, who have actually said nothing, and done less. They can be bought.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t necessarily believe them, I was just pointing out the difference in attitude to both journalists because one was positive, the other less so.
Even now when the one less positive has proved to be right.

discussing the value of investment or what it would go on is irrelevant as we’re just speculating.
Similar to situation, I live down the road from Seaburn / Whitburn but I’d welcome any further investment in the area with open arms.

Much the same way I'd welcome investment in Wallsend or North Shields then. Where its needed.

Concentrating more jobs in Central Newcastle is not a positive thing.
