For myself and most of the fans I know it's not really case of expecting to be in a particular position.
We think the club should be trying to improve and not just trying to survive in the Premier league at the cheapest cost.

If someone told me that for the next few seasons we wouldn't be in a relegation battle I would be happy with that.
After a few seasons of not being in a relegation battle though I would then be thinking right now we are no longer relegation candidates, how do we kick on from you.

You've spent £125m in the last three seasons, I'd say that was trying to improve.
Oh and signed a world class manager, doesn't sound like a club just trying to avoid relegation to me.

Those unknown teams managed to raise their game for a while and play a one-off match at the likes Barcelona and Milan. You need to remember that that’s all Newcastle have managed as well. It’s not as though they were competing in the latter stages of competitions on a regular basis all those years ago to justify the likes of Benji’s ‘European Titans’ claim.

I read that this morning.
The bit that had me puzzled was when he said Saudi Arabia need to unblock BeIN sports. It's the other way round BeIN sports (Qatar) blocked the Saudis, UAE etc from getting premier league sports which is why they pirated it.
He then goes to say they will need to shut down BoutQ which i believe was shut down some time ago.

Not to mention that Richard Masters is being pretty tight lipped about the whole thing so I'm not sure how he would know.
Sounds more like what he thinks the hold up is not what he knows the hold up is.

Time will be in the telling I guess.

Well unless Spurs played 110 games of European football last season I would suggest that you are wrong, Spurs have actually played 232 competitive games in European Football, and won 3 European trophies and lost 2 other finals.
 
If Yoorope is so good why do NUFC get smaller crowds for those matches?

I know this is hard for you to accept but this is the way that most rational people would see the ranking of English clubs.

Man Utd, Liverpool. In a league of their own.

Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea. Arsenal more successful but recent success puts the other 2 alongside them now.

Villa, Everton, Sunderland, Newcastle, Leeds, Forest, Spurs, Forest. The most successful of the rest. All have had their days in the sun. Some more recently than others. Bald men fighting over combs at the present time.

Move Spurs an Everton to their own level just below Arenal, Chelsea etc..

Most that list is spot on to be fair, however nobody outside of Sunderland would ever put them in a list with the rest of them clubs you have mentioned in that 3rd tier.

Football has changed a lot in the last 20 or 30 years, all I am saying is nobody born in the last 20 or 30 years and watches football would ever put Sunderland in that list.

I agree with that other than Sunderland aren't in the same tier as the others in tier 3. All the others in tier 3 have played loads of games in europe and gone deep into European competitions and/or won them.

Also every single one in that list other than Sunderland has all finished in the top 6 at least once in the last 30 years

They're basically saying this WTO report is going to be additional leverage for the PL and beIN, too, as it's so heavily in their favour and against Saudi Arabia, so that's another potential cause for the ongoing delay. Staveley and Co. most recently answered PL questions on Wednesday, and there's still a heavy back-and-forth ongoing.

Suppose it all boils down to how much MBS is willing to bend in order to get control of NUFC and get a foothold in the Premier League, because it seems the PL (and beIN's) positions are pretty clear.

If it needs Qatar and Saudi to settle their differences then this won't happen. My Saudi associates felt it would have to get sorted, so they could attend the World Cup but I have no idea if/when that will take place. Denying a nation the chance to attend a WC on its doorstep is one thing to bend for, taking over a parochial football team is another.
