Josh Tongue Test Debut

Not sure he will play ashes mind

There is a chance like, see how series goes, if the pitches are flat and Wood gets crocked. You wouldnt want 3 english seamers, no matter how good they are.

I was pretty convinced Carse was going to play 1 test in ashes before his injury, this lad is his replacement

They clearly played him to see if he was a potential backup to Wood who will no doubt breakdown at some point.

Still thought playing Woakes and getting him back into test cricket might be more beneficial for our chances mind.

But he's impressed me.
He's kept his speeds up unlike Archer,Stone,Mahmood and J.Overton.

No doubt McCullum and Stokes are impressed too. Be interesting to see how he goes today if he takes a fifer bowling an average of 86mph then he's defs gonna be in the squad for some games.

Hopefully Tongue (and Ahmed) get a game at the Oval. Vital experience with Anderson and maybe Broad not around in two years for the away series

You maybe correct but Ahmed may also be on of those ala Trescothick who never did much in county cricket but took to international cricket like a duck to water
Trescothick record was good I guess it's difficult there's a reason why we haven't had quality leg spin really in England on plus side his batting looks good

I really like Tongue and with him and Wood in the same team we will have a pace attack that outguns Australia. Then with Broad and Woakes offering something different with more traditional English swing it gives us a more varied attack.

You could also make a case that due to the dearth of leg spinners in test cricket generally England should make an exception for Ahmed as he will be gold dust if he does make it in the test arena. It is a very hard art

Huge game. We have just been superb here. Not playing for the last 2 days had meant a bit more of a rest than expected. They will definitely either go in unchanged or Tongue for Jimmy providing there are no injuries.
