Josh Tongue Test Debut

The BBC cricket page is in full melt down that Woakes gas been overlooked averages 47 with the ball v the Aussies and 21 with bat.

The way they are talking him up like he is Richard Hadlee.

Because his record in England isn’t far off Sir Richard Hadlee ;)
I worry he would be very infective if Stokes get the flat pitches he wants. His primary asset is swinging the ball. He’s always struggled when the ball does not move does not really reverse and has lost pace.

Heard people say his batting is useful but the Aussies have consistently bounced him out.

Yes I agree actually. I’m a big fan if Woakes in the side in England as 3rd seamer batting at 8 but it is likely we will have flatter pitches than normal and if that’s the case we need other options. I doubt all 5 will end up without seam movement tho. Just have to wait and see.

very interesting debut this mind, his speeds are better than I expected, he is not express on individual balls, but he is consistently sharp, think one spell he averaged 86mph, that is very quick consistently. His bouncers were well directed too.

I hope they dont just make him only do short stuff if he features, one thing on flat pitches is that just hitting top of off regularly at a quicker pace forces errors by the batsman

its why Cummins and Hazlewood can look a lot more dangerous than Broad on the same pitch when bowling the same lengths when its flat

another good selection by England, its been remarkably good since the new regime took over.
