Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

Regardless of how much can be read into a game v Andorra. He is being picked in the England squad by Tuchel, yet some flat out suggest he's not good enough for a PL relegation battle. More baffling opinions.

Excellent in a 1-0 win against Andorra?

If that's not a oxymoron I don't know what is
Do you blame Jordan Pickford for that result too?

A manager picks a team. A holding midfielder is there to instigate things and break up play.

Henderson didn't fail to beat his man, not get in crosses in, slot the ball into the attackers, miss chances etc. It wasn't his roll.

He controlled the ball, played it simple mostly, did the odd longer ball, retained possession. That was his job which he did well.

L

you’ve just told me that the holding midfielder isn’t involved in breaking down a team and Henderson was excellent in a scraping victory against Andorra you moron how can you tell me anything
He was playing in a primarily defensive midfield roll. He isn't going to be involved in a lot of attacks. Do you actually watch football?

If there's one more midfield option we need, I think it's a true defensive midfielder with strength / ability to intercept and break up play. I don't think we're as pressed for a player to recycle possession like Hendo

Would've taken him, but can see how our current business has shifted priorities

You’ve just said above it’s his job to break up play

A holding midfielder needs to move the ball quickly

He stood on it allowed defenders to get in shape went sideways got it back stood on it again

A holding midfielder should be playing progressive line breaking passes that put the team on the front foot and put the defence team on transition having to turn around and run back to their own goal when the midfield is split

He did not do thay

So YES. A defensive midfielder is crucial in breaking down a team

How many Ajax games did you watch last year Keith? How many games in Saudi did you watch?

Let's face it, you're making an argument about how good Henderson is based upon one game against Andorra. I'd rather trust our recruitment team over Keith from the SMB.

Preciously none.

Did you watch the Andorra game? I did. I speak as I find. He played decent, the team as a whole didn't.

Had full trust in Speakman and Ghisolfi's judgement but a bloke called Keith reckons he knows better so now I'm in two minds.
