I doubt that he would have gone to he bother of announcing that he's a "free agent" if his future with SAFC was on the cards. If he was keen to come and SAFC was keen to have him I would have thought that there would have been an understanding about that ages ago. There would be no need to signal his availability at this stage.

Jordan Henderson being the leader in our midfield would be the making of Dan Neil I think. I don't think Neil would lose the captaincy unless he isn't signing a new deal of course

People need to wake up about dan neil. The same people who say Patterson is fantastic yet the club have realised not good enough for top level. Dan Neil is an average championship player. In a play off side in the championship he was regarded as our 3rd best central midfielder behind jobe and rigg. Gets caught in possession loads, not many assists, not many goals, not a great tackler, daft red cards. Pull up his stats if you want. If he was that good clubs would be queuing up for him especially as his contract running down. Alex Neil dropped him in a heartbeat and we barely lost a game when he did. He’s not as good as jobe, rigg and pritchard was also better than him. He’s a local lad who is decent no better. Sounds like he maybe thinks he’s better than he is. I think he’ll regret not signing a contract sooner. His performance in play off final for a captain was disgraceful.

Using the word 'disgraceful' about a player who later admitted he was struggling with cramp from early in the 2nd half, having had the weight of the world on his shoulders for weeks before the final? I've read it all now!

this has to be nailed on. probably the biggest no brainer of the window.
we have a bloody young team, lots of new signings and we need some glue in there.
We need a General who has won it all.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that we may even be building our very young team, who have limitless potential, around an experienced midfielder who can bark out orders and maintain discipline for RLB.

It's made for 'one last dance' with Henderson, but if not him then who else has his experience and desire to do well for us? On a personal level, having lived away for years, I'd imagine he and his family would relish being back here around family.

Now RLB could be considering going with youth throughout the team, left back aside, but that would be a huge risk. There are some very astute managers in the league, who use detailed and quite complex tactics and it will take huge amounts of discipline to counter those tactics and also consistency, which is something young teams lack.

Aye, I agree tbh and the club will have their own ideas and are very stubborn to them as we've seen.

Atm I'm just more concerned about strikers, centre backs and a keeper tbh.

I reckon Henderson could add a couple of years to his career by moving to Centre Half. Didn't he have a run of games there for Liverpool during an injury crisis? These nostalgia transfers often don't work out but I just have a feeling this one will.

Depends on the Ajax contract, you wouldn’t want to go early and then have Ajax demand a fee.

I do have my doubts it will happen anyway.
