Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

Good post. I have just read Colin Todd’s book and that’s mentioned.
It's mentioned in nearly all biographies and autobiographies on the great pair including the best but hard to find 'With Clough by Taylor'.
By their own declaration, Mackay was the most important signing they ever made bar none. It precipitated everything that followed for them; not just Derby winning the title but the methods then adopted at Forest.
In this context, Henderson is worth serious consideration for where this club now finds itself.

How the fook do you remember stuff like that? I can’t remember what I had for my tea?

Maybe me. I didn’t like the signing of him (or helmer) as thought we were doing it on the cheap but he won me round. Maybe I over inflated his contributions.
Helmer only played once, away at Leeds. Never really confirmed what went on there but a fallout with Saxton was rumoured.

How do I remember this stuff? Dunno it just sticks. Massive Lads Fan 8-)

Some debut that mind. Walked back across the town after it couldn’t believe how good he was. Got injured shortly after. Maybe even next game v City??? Then the debut got better and better as the years went on.
I tell you who else had a very good debut for us years ago, Paul McShane v Spurs.

Slightly off topic but the greatest player that ever played for Sunderland A.F.C. Mr Charlie Hurley made his debut in a 7-0 defeat, his career improved from there.

Yorke was a similar age (possible a year younger?) when he signed for us. A former striker, slotting into midfield, and did very well for us.

It’s a no brainer for me for the experience and leadership alone.
Yorke it's the best comparison for me. It's pace and tempo of the game. The Championship is like a undercard fight where game boxers try and knock each other out from the first bell, the Premier League is a world title fight where they patiently try and exploit weakness. We need someone with the highest level of PL experience to play the game. We are fortunate that one of our own is one of the most experienced, accomplished PL players available. We would be foolish not to do all we can to bring him home

Yes read a lot about Clough, the man was a legend in every sense of the word. Just a shame we couldn’t get him here in his prime.

As I have said, more than a few times, Henderson would be a magnificent signing. He would set standards throughout the club and would be a massive help to the young lads. Would likely encourage the little bit of real quality we need to sign too.

My only fear is Speakman and RLB see him as a threat. My view is he would help everyone at the club and set the standards.

I couldn't agree more with you and I really hope that Speakman and RLB are 'bigger' than that so to speak. We urgently need PL nouse and if we get it, we can surprise a few next season.

Aye hope so.

I have been critical of Speakman in the past but look where we are so it shows what I know. :-)

Hopefully Speakman and RLB see the overall benefits and we get JH back home asap
