He went, it wasn't for him, and he returned to a proper football club on a massive pay cut. He's not a bad person.


It's a world away from actively greasing up and bending over for your tyrannical overlords to use your club for sportswashing in the hope it buys you a few trophies.

Sorry marra, but I disagree.

He's not thick. Hs knew exactly what he was getting in to.

He signed the deal, and six months in, he didn't like it.

If he hadn't been so vocally virtuous on the ethics prior to him going, then maybe I'd cut him some slack.

But on womens rights etc he was so vocal and supportive, then just binned those principles for the green.

He knew, he hated it when he got there, but his ethics had already gone marra.

That's not true. He got paid half of his wage up front. Most of them do in Saudi that's the attraction apparently.

Not going to tell anyone what to think mate just think myself there simply no comparison between the two. I was disappointed he chose to go there but was happy that he saw sense. It would’ve been so easy for him to have sat out there for a few years and milked it for the silly money the likes of Ronaldo gerrard to ey etc etc have taken. He didn’t like it made the decision to walk away from it all and tried his look at another huge European football club. I really believe he didn’t want to go to another English side other than us after he left Liverpool. We were not in a position to offer him anything at the time. But like I said if you want to compare a state owned run football club with fans wearing towels and chanting Saudis boys are in town etc to fans welcoming home one of our own after he rectified his mistake very quickly then that’s up to you.

Just what I read at the time, something about you need to be over there for a certain period for the perks to kick in. I heard it last week on sky sports news that players need to be over for a period of time before things kick in. Could’ve been bollocks but I’m sure it was reported at the time he pretty much walked away with nothing from his spell.

Just found it mate he deferred all wages for six months for a tax loophole hole then left afterwards deferring all owed wages costing himself £4m so he basically left with nowt.

I doubt his principles and beliefs changed a bit to be honest.

He just made a mistake.

At the end of the day, if he comes back, he's a footballer on a wage, offering up his services on the pitch. And he's a local lad who loves the club. There's no hypocrisy in getting behind him and wanting him to do well for Sunderland. It's not as if he's gonna rock up and plant a Saudi flag and demand the tea lady wear a burka.

We're a club who've offered a start to a young convict, we've employed a fascist, and we've been blindsided by a sex offender. Jordan Henderson is not a problem.

First off, I'm not comparing Jordon to the mags so forget that debate.

But he took a massive pay cut? Aye compared to the Saudi wages but he got a £1.2m signing on fee and summit like £3.5m a year salary. He could have got a multi million contract leaving Liverpool (not the signing on fee) but he went for the money and left his morals and good work back in Liverpool. The amount he lost was summit like £4m according to this article but it's not as if he was losing his life saving either.

Sorry mate but this is just bollox. He was so vocal and supportive? He was England and Liverpool captain, it was a directive in line with the FA. He was asked (maybe told) he should be a face of any rainbow laces/one love campaigns. What should he say? No? Where does that then put him morally?

He then gets offered a fantastic and lucrative deal to play in a league where many other players have gone and continue to go and also respects their wishes and doesn’t continue in any further backing of those campaigns.

You can’t know any of that mate without being in his head. To me it looks like he made a mistake and rectified it. The easiest thing would be to have stayed till the next window pocketed the money. He didn’t cost himself pretty much everything he’d earned in that period also. Whichever it was that made him change his mind he didn’t cost himself so and forfeited millions of pounds for the sake of a few months.

A pay cut is a pay cut.

Liverpool didn't want him.

He undoubtedly wanted to play a higher level of football when he realised the Saudi gig wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

What are the problems here?

Of course he did and rightfully got stick for it, but unlike the likes of gerrard, rondaldo Tony and the rest he gave up pretty much everything he’d earned penny of oil money and chalked up to a massive mistake. Would’ve been very easy to sit on his contract for a few more months banked 4-8million and moved in the next window but he didn’t.

We all make mistakes in life, he realised he'd made a mistake and then rectified it. Lots of footballers are still taking money from that disgusting regime, yet Henderson gets picked on as if he's the only one. An easy way to rectify the situation is for the FA to ban ownership by nation states or their proxies.

I don’t think going to Saudi was a good move for JH but he didn’t stay long and didn’t get paid.

You are a good poster and I generally agree with you, however, comparing JH to the complete takeover over and sportswashing of the football club up the road is wrong imho.

Where JH is in his career and where SAFC is, it’s a perfect match and quite rightly many SAFC supporters want to see this happen.

I'm pretty sure they did want him to stay but said he would get less game time . From his comments in January saying he loves us but wants to stay at Ajax gives me the impression he won't come and he was back at Wembley just as a fan as he is entitled to do. Things may have changed at Ajax and now we are back in the top league maybe things have aligned for him to come back. He did say there was zero contact last time mind, so I have my suspicions about if this is true or not
 
This thread is like a hamsters wheel.

Hopefully, something gets sorted this week I regards to him coming or not. Really hope it doesn't drag on all summer.

The FA can do what they want , but it won't affect the premier league, and if you think UEFA or FIFA are going to go against them then you have no chance . We all wanted promotion but now we are in the big bad corrupt world where money talks and you can buy your way out of everything if needed
