Jordan Henderson compendium thread

There’s 2 reasons for deferring payment as I understand.

1st, he would be resident in the UK in 23/24 due to when he left.

2nd, Saudi Arabia deems you resident there after 2 years so it’ll not be until he’s been there 2 years that he’ll receive full payment.

The reality is likely to be closer to the first. He’s employed under contract. Depending on the terms of termination or transfer then he’ll be entitled to some or all of the wages for the 6 months he’s been there. He’ll be taxed in the UK as he didn’t spend 6 full months in Saudi Arabia.

As per a journalist yesterday on the radio, he has also agreed to make 2 payments to the club to get out of his contract, one of which is being paid now as he leaves, and the other is paid at the end of the european season and is dependent on achievements at Ajax. Even when he gets this deferred wage its going to be heavily reduced from what he signed up to in the summer.

anyway, I am sure he is going to Ajax for the project, hoping to grow the game in The Netherlands

Can’t believe some the comments on here about a local lad who has to be the best player to ever come out of Sunderland. I’d love to see the response the vocal minority on here would have if someone offered you mega money to go and do a job you love out in Saudi…. And before anyone goes on about how much money he already has it’s all relative. Plus he had the chance to set up generations of his future family. There’s very few people who would actually say no to what he was offered regardless of the bravado you spout in here.
The lad knows he made the wrong choice and wants home. He missed his family too much. We can all relate to that surely. He doesn’t look well on some the photos. Give the kid a break ffs. He’s one of our own

It is completely different to a normal individual being offered life changing money to a footballer who had already been receiving millions a year. I wouldn't want to go there as I think it's a backwards place to live and I like to be near home. And that's before you go into his persona he projected regarding principle and decency. There would have been plenty of other options for him to receive a decent wage in countries that wouldn't have set his reputation aflame.

I detest the comparison of a footballer and an average workers priorities. He wanted for nothing already, the average worker struggles to afford their energy bills.

Is he coming back to the UK?

If he goes to NL then he can avoid UK tax. Maybe one of the reasons he isn't going to an EPL club.

Not sure what will happen but I'm pretty sure he will be getting some good advice to avoid getting hit with a massive tax bill.

His family was with him. Over the border in Bahrain (iirc) where he also lived.
Yes, he wasn't even living in Saudi.

And he was on to earn about £25m from his football career.
He wasnt short of a quid.

It’s not relative at all. He was already a millionaire - just how much money does he need ?

It was all about greed pure and simple.

Yes he’s made a mistake and everyone deserves a second chance but just because he’s from Sunderland doesn’t mean people shouldn’t call it out for exactly what it was.

He must know now that having been very, very vocal about inclusivity to then go and move to Saudi on a multi million pound contract was going to reflect very badly on him.

I’m sure his troubled conscience will be eased by the money he’ll earn in Holland.

Couldn’t give a shiny shite. He’s spent his entire career making a virtue of how much he supports the LGBT community specifically then the second he’s offered a few quid, he basically tells them to fuck off.

He’s enabling sportswashing in exactly the same way as the mags and those golf twats.

This for me. If he hadn’t been pretending to be a champion of the LGBT community it would have been completely different. However, he’s spat in the face of those he’s supposed to have been protecting by taking blood money from a state that have criminalised homosexuality.

I don’t see how that’s forgivable, unless he makes a grand gesture such as donating all his wages since he’s been there to a UK charity.

Just glad he saw the light and got out. He could repair some of the damage to his reputation by using his platform to speak out against Saudi and advising players not to make the same mistake he did.

I heard due to it being deferred payment he won’t get a penny
