Johny Bairstow update

I hope they don't pick him just because it's him if he doesn't get a score before the first Test. No reason to drop anyone for him

Who gets dropped for an out of nick Bairstow?

I would not say he is out of nick as just come back?

However his performances last summer are up there with some of the best summers a England cricketer has had!

Not only did he score runs, he both scored them quickly and more importantly were match winning knocks.

He undoubtedly imo should play, in answer to your question would drop Crawley and move people up.

Which agreeably is not ideal, but certainly better than leaving a match winner out of the side.

Even if you accept he’s out of nick, and I’d agree it’s a bit early, I’d be happy for him to replace a never been in nick and never will be at this level Crawley based on last year alone. Which of those would you rather face as an Australian bowler?

However, since he kept but didn’t open last week (even though he had in the past and would suit the current style imv) it’s clear they’ve lined him up to replace Foakes, which i am less happy about.

The bottom line for me is he needs to be in the side, would prefer him instead of Crawley, but if no other way to get him in the side would have him instead of Foakes.

Absolutely don’t want Foakes dropped would rather have Crawley dropped.

But Bairstow should play imo

We play Ireland first so I think Bairstow will play in this. In fact I think there will be a few changes just to rest players such as Anderson and Broad. If Stokes isn't 100% fit he might not play although I gather he is fit again to play in the IPL.

My one fear is they stick with Crawley for this test and he gets a century. That would guarantee his place for the Ashes.

Rest Anderson and Broad? If they wanted that they wouldn't be playing for Lancs and Notts

I thought that too but I reckon the ECB wanted them to get a few games to get properly ready for the Ashes and bypass the Ireland game which wouldn't give them much of a workout.

Also scored a cracking hundred in the last Ashes batting alongside Ben to save that 4th test.

From what I saw of YJB this week at CLS, he kept pretty well and batted ok, but it doesn‘t look to me that he is anywhere near an Ashes series. Some sitting near me said they had seen him noticeably limping?

I imagine after the injury he’s had, it’ll take a good run of games to get his body back into the match fitness bracket - the limp could merely be in connection to that.

He looked nowhere near as athletic as normal one of the guest commentators. Said he had seen him doing ruining with their physio after play and was not moving freely.
