Thread was on his captaincy, not his batting chief ;)

We moved him back to 4 last summer during the India series. He started scoring hundreds again and now hes been moved back to 3 where he's shocking again to accommodate Denly

Root and his mate Bairstow tend to chuck in the towel a little if they don't get their own way (i.e. Root at 3, Bairstow not keeping wicket). Their attitudes need adjusting. They need to be more adaptable.

I get the impression Root is a spoilt brat. Would I go into battle for him as captain? Is he an inspiring character? No to both for me.

Absolutely class batsman. Out of form but wont be for long. Every top class England batsman in y lifetime always had poor runs of form. Gooch, Gower, Cook etc but all eventually come back into form.

Hes actually not and thats the worrying thing!

Dropped by 4 in 23 tests i think
f***ing hell thats loads

Worrying thing is really when he gets towards the back end of his career youd imagine his average will drop even further as that tends to happen

He needs stripping of the captaincy. Better batsmen than him have failed as captain and it affected their batting too

The only thing with Root is I don't think his ego would allow him to give up the captaincy.
That's not to say he's egotistical or selfish, because he isn't. But I think he'd look at Williamson, Smith (pre sandpaper) and Kholi, and feel he has to.

The difference between captains in this test. Smith, hit on arm, hit on neck, keeps coming back scores 92. Root out first ball - Ones a leader (not captain but still a leader) the other isn’t. I remember when there was a debate about the best batsman / captain ie Kane Williamson, Smith, Kohli and Root. Think we may know who comes last in that list!

Root is an incredible batsman, alas he is not a natural leader, tacitly he is very naive and this has been evident in this series, some of the fields he set to Smith were horrendous. However, who will replace him, Stokes is the only one I can think of.

Tbf though hes absolutely nowhere near as good as any of them since taking the captaincy.

Its about the bigger picture. He isnt a good captain and his batting isnt where it should be for a player of his class
