Jhon Lucumi - Transfer Rumour

Oh mad - need to listen to this
You could also interpret what he said with a pessimistic outlook. He said he’d heard the Lucumi to Sunderland deal was all but done but that was now several days ago and it still hasn’t happened. Whether Bologna have moved the goalposts, the player wasn’t convinced or any other reason the deal still isn’t over the line.

There’s still reports that the players agent is touting him around La Liga hoping to drum up interest

oh yeh it can only be negative mate hahaha

People were saying no to John Stones as a suggestion previously, think some need to understand where we currently are before turning their noses up at Maguire and Stones etc.

Zero chance that either come here anyways mind.

We could have a squad competing for the champions league if we’d signed some of the players some are saying we shouldn’t sign!

I think there’s a huge lack of appreciation for the level from some quarters

He could also be peddling shite tbf

Respect your opinion mate but imo, Maguire is on a different level to Ballard like.

I’m not saying he isn’t, just to be clear.

I’m saying I think when it comes to backs to the wall defending, in a deep, low block - which is how we will probably play - then I think Ballard is close. He’s close to him in the air as well, obviously Maguire is better, he’s probably the best or second best in the league, after Gabriel at Arsenal. Maybe Van Djik. But there won’t be many better than Ballard, he is just a phenomenal player in the air.

Maguire has much more to his game, he’s an outstanding passer and has bags of experience. He will read the game better. Comfortable in a back three. So I’m not saying Ballard is better, that’s ridiculous, Maguire must have close to 70, 80, England caps without looking. But I don’t think he’s the right profile for our main purchase, because we already have Ballard as a player with similar flaws/strengths. I think we need a different balance. We should - and I think are - looking for a budget Van Djik or Saliba, not a budget Maguire or Gabriel.

Maybe Bologna are waiting on their replacement (WBA CB) before letting him go and that's why we haven't had barely any more links because lucumi is in the wings ready to go?

I think there was only one lad saying that he had a mistake in him. That's a fair comment imho, as he always did have a brain fart potential.

Stones has been a class CB but has also spent long spells out with injury. That's the predominate reason people would be reluctant to take him (not that he would come here in any case imho). I also think that's fair enough.

Maguire's a different type of CB but he's getting on, getting visibly slower, not that he's ever been quick and is, as you've mentioned, on £200k/week.

I can't imagine that we'd be paying anyone even £100k/week of the lads we've signed, Xhaka included, so I'd be worried if we were bringing in Maguire even if he was prepared to come here for that wage.

Bang on mate.

Stones might be available you know, especially in January.

But our ambitious project will have to have us about 7th or 8th to have a chance!!!!

Be a decent market in January for players like Stones who want to go to the World Cup but might not be in the first XI of top teams.

(Should be in there imo, he’s better than Dias, but I’m not Pep).

Great point

Just checked up and there’s reports today that Bologna are in advanced talks with West Brom over Torbjorn Heggem. They feel a deal can be struck

This move suddenly hit the media around the time we made our 25 Million bid.

IF, it’s correct regarding Lucumi being agreed last week, maybe they’re just waiting for Heggem (or another replacement) to come in.

I see the optimistic side.

He doesn't want to come though which is the sticky part
