Jhon Lucumi - Transfer Rumour

If I was doing the negotiations… I’d think a 27 year old that hasn’t exactly set the world on fire (hence no other bidders so far), is not worth 30m euros, apparently he’s not that great with aerial challenges. Knowing nowt about stats, even I can figure aerial challenges are important for cbs. There’s likely to be next to nothing sale value if this fella tanks the prem or even if he’s okay but part of a relegation team aged 28. That’s just my layman’s view. 25 worth a punt 30 I am out ( euros).
Sam Beukema was the one to get out of this side, he's recently gone to Napoli for a reported 30m euro.

By all accounts he was the leader of the backline.

Don’t get me wrong I’d still sign him, but we have as much to offer him as he does us. At this point a run in the premiership could make his career. Genuine opportunity to step up to the next level.

If we know anything about this current regime at SAFC, it's that they won't overbid (at least not by much) for a player or sign players they aren't convinced are right for the club. The evidence suggests they'd rather just wait for the right player to be available, at the right price. The evidence also suggests they've been pretty good at it too, and personally I wouldn't have it any other way. Of course we're fishing in a different pond these days and there's a lot of competition for players at the level we're aiming for now. Given all that, I think they deserve a bit of patience from the fanbase, also because there's absolutely nothing we can do to change it.

As a diversion for anyone following the Lucumi thread and the tedious football club Bologna .
Bologna is a fantastic city and well worth a visit!
Can’t believe we’re 1 week away from our opener and we haven’t signed a CB
Give the team a bit of slack , they’ve start from a very low base and have been very proactive, have you considered this might not be easy ?

Sorry marra. Just the thought of Seelt or Jones being anywhere near the starting 11 has been giving me nightmares recently. Been waking up crying. 🚨 🚨 🚨 🚨

He’s a good player, but he’s overpriced because he’s left-footed imo.

We should sign the best player we can, irrespective of foot.
For all I’m over the moon with our transfer activity, the failure to sort out our defence will be as bad as the failure to get a centre forward a few seasons back .

Much, much, much worse.

The spine of the team is most important and invariably the most difficult to sort out. Xhaka is a fantastic addition, doesn’t make the rest of the spine less challenging to recruit

I looked at their team the other day and thought most of their players get in our team. Shows the size of the task if we're half expecting the hammers to be one of the teams that might struggle a touch this year

I agree. Not so sure about Bournemouth
Ballard or Seelt could get injured before WH game. Totally stuffed then.

We'd almost certainly play reinaldo cb. We may do that anyway

Weve just outbid and likely slightly overdid to guarantee a goalkeeper. I wouldn't be so surprised if we did the same for a cb

Its all good we'll just get Talbi from Lorient, we're just waiting incase someone says we did another nunez and bought the wrong one 😜

How can he sign tho if we haven’t been given permission off he’s club to speak to the player?
Well if we haven't got permission why we wasting our time
You sound just the kind of sophisticated influencer and negotiator we need

Nobody had even heard of the fella 2 months ago. Probs just another Davinson Sanchez.

I wouldn't be begging and pleading nobody. Move onto the next one . Personally I'd rather have some 30 year old British CB with premier league experience

Thought we might have chased Adam Webster from Brighton. A Brighton supporter on Twitter said he was still very much part of their squad but who knows? Things change.

Well nobody is incorrect

I hadn’t tbh but we employ a team of people who figure out quality v cost v potential v future value and I’m sure other considerations

I don’t think there’s any begging going on, but I can imagine it’s a very complex and dynamic market to navigate. Ghisolfi was brought in as he has a very good track record of doing just that.

They will have multiple targets and be having numerous discussions I’m sure

They will deliver a couple of centre backs, whether they have been mentioned yet, who knows. Time will tell

The management team keep coming up with jems when not one of the ITKs have even been near the mark. They will likely do so again, yes time getting on, but KTF, they will produce another rabbit out of the hat and all will be ok again and we will fight every inch of the way to show all the doubters we can survive and thrive.

Yeh that's a much sensible calculated gamble

We don't know they are gems other than Xhaka . They might be but we don't know that for sure.

Fingers crossed they are
