I could add to this debate and state the absolute obvious, logical and common sense view.

Which is if a ref starts out from the bottom of his profession and in a diffrent country and moves all his way up to the top of his profession, therefore ending up in the best league in the world.

He must have been a good ref in a reasonably lot of games?

That’s common sense and logical.

but of course that often in short supply on here when mistakes are remembered for years and good games forgotten in seconds.

the common sense view is that it matters not one iota his history, where he came from, how good or bad in all of his previous games. all of that is just waffle and deflection.
it's his performance on saturday that's at question, that's all that matters.

No i disagree , a referee is not playing sport hes essentially engaged in an intellectual persuit there is no potential for him to fail physically in execution . The VAR even had time to consider the intellectualising at leisure .
Although its true the comparison doesnt represent life and death surely thats a reason the officials should perform better , no pressure . If the surgeons hand wobbled , the gasman stripped a thread , the police missed with Tazer , % human error , take it on balance . If they fail to notice the patient is consious , decide not to turn off the gas or dont report a crime , thats a fundamental failure in decision making that the man on the clapham omnibus has every right to expect not to happen.
99% of men in Clapham shouted penna and were astonished someone decided otherwise . Both you and the other one have already said it was inexplicable.
Thats not fair or logical is it ?
Yeah the VAR ref whoever he was deserves miles more criticism imo, as had more time, slowed down, could tell the severity of the push better.

It was a really bad decision in real time but inexcusable after VAR.

Think real time decisions should not result in immediate punishment think the whole season and all performances should be took into account.

You could have a situation where a ref could make a really bad decision in real time like Saturday but been best ref in the country all season.

That should be took into account before any decisions are made that is fair imo

It wont be his only one trust me . The only thing i can think is he froze, well not the only thing but one mustn't be libleous . Refs shouldnt freeze

If the bad decisions (on Saturday) could have gone either way - why did none go in our favour - surely at least half of them should?

Yeah nobody has ever disputed he had a really bad game, because he did.

A poster asked a question what should happen to him.

And I am saying what should happen to him should depend on all his performances as it does when players make big mistakes.

however well he's refereed in the past should absolutely not be taken into account.

I guess the question I have to that is a ref promoted to the premier leagues because they have been good or bad up until that point??
Sorry, thought I'd made that point clear in the 2nd sentence of my post. Working from a very poor base line as I indicated by the general malaise in allowing so many clear infringements to go unpunished as I exemplified in my 4th sentence.

If Roefs fucks up tomorrow night would he get dropped straight away or would his previous performances get taken in account?

When was the baseline high in your opinion?

And centre forwards on 100k a week shouldn’t miss open goals but they do!

Refs have made bad mistakes in real time since forever and it’s more excusable to freeze in the moment with one look, then VAR who have multiple looks.

Dont get me wrong really bad decision in real time, absolute terrible horrendous decision after VAR.

Genuinely can’t understand where VAR ref not getting more criticism than the ref on the field.

As they obviously had a clear and better chance of getting the right decision

I think it should as that fairer, otherwise you saying if Haaland or Kane misses the biggest chance of the season next week they should be dropped immediately.

To assess anybody fairly the whole of their performances should be taken into account.

You're still not getting the difference in skills execution and pure observation and subsequent dependant decision making . Its not acceptable to freeze at all
The VAR gets equal criticism from me and i have equally libelous thoughts about them.

when are both of you going to realise we're discussing the referee, not a player.
it's the same old rubbish both of you come out with.

I see the 3 bumbling boris Johnson’s on here are still trying to find an excuse for this referee from Saturday….😂😂🤔🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Firstly not sure how someone who has had multiple looks slowed down can have equal criticism, as one who only has one look in one speed, as it clearly easier for the one who has multiple looks and more time to decide?

Secondly I don’t see the difference, I have been confused for years how horrendous mistakes by professional footballers earning vast sums of money are kind of accepted as part and parcel of the game because it’s always happened and always will, where similar bad mistakes by refs in real time are not, even though those have also always happened and always will.

VAR mistakes a different matter and deserve a lot of criticism as can’t emphasize enough the difference between having to make a real time decision and one after a replay.

One is soo much more easier than the other.

Because people are fair with players and assess their good games against their bad ones.

They not fair with refs they forget their good games and remember their mistakes for years.

It’s simply a unfair way to judge any profession in sport.
