Like any spacecraft, the telescope has encountered micrometeoroids and its sensors have detected six deformations on the telescope's primary mirror panels that have been attributed to strikes.

It took over 3 years just to polish the lenses.
The details you can see are like looking through a grain of sand held at arms length. We're looking at 13+ billion years ago.
JWT uses a far wider spectrum than Hubble so it can detect mid range infra red light.
It can also provide data on the atmosphere of planets way into our galaxy
