I always like to see the upside in every signing we make but I'd far rather Asoro and Maja were given a chance than sign a 29 year league one striker who's career high was 14 goals in the Championship.

I really hope he's not first choice come August

I honestly though he had retired, don't think I even looked at league one table last season so I though he's hung up his boots due to injury. Seems he had a good season his best yet, his record overall is pretty bad due to injuries etc I'd guess. He's only hit double figures for goals three times, and he's only started around 200 games in a career that spans around 12 years.

Exactly. The same people who say a spell in the championship gives us time to sort the squad and get rid of the deadwood before we go back into the Premier league seem to think it's a good idea to build a squad of players that IF we went back up wouldn't be good enough or too old to play in the Premier league in any case. Then they will be complaining when we can't sell them.

Then it would be a poor deal we need 3 strikers at least plus we lack wingers anyway
4 plus Watmore, Maja, Asoro, Greenwood, Gooch. I'd be surprised if we signed 4 centre forwards plus 2 or 3 wingers as our budget isn't going to be huge and it would also stifle the development of the young uns.

Well, I think we all knew that it was time we accepted that we're in a completely different level now:neutral:
If he's backup to another 2, better quality, then that's ok imo

If he's 1st choice or one of the expected 1st 11, then I think it's time we accepted we're going to be at this level for a while to come

The club are quite rightly being very tight lipped about targets and our spending budget. This is what's getting people anxious. We're all completely in the dark - yes we know the club are in a financial mess but no one on here knows how much has been given to Grayson this summer.

Vaughan could be brought in to complement a group of four strikers, as a back up known to the manager who can be relied upon to play say 15 games this season and give the main strikers a breather in a long gruelling championship campaign OR

Vaughan could be the main man in a striking quartet including Asoro, Maja and Watmore with what is left of our miserly budget having to be spread to cover other positions.

It's the not knowing that is unsettling !

I think that the lack of signings so far with the only ones being two young loanees from Everton is playing a major part.

f***ing hell watching that the time he was allowed unmarked in the box Who's the left back at bury the lad looked decent.

Tbf we once had only Kyle, Stewart, Smith and Byfield in the championship and finished 3rd. They all contributed a reasonable amount too.
Stewart was a very good striker at that level and not long off that mint season for Ipswich in the prem.

He's 29 year old - ended up at Bury after being on a downward trajectory for years - and on the assumption that he'll probably sign a three year deal here - the lad must be rubbing his hands together that we've come calling with a last big pay-day for him.

Chuck a questionable attitude into the mix, and I say this has all the hallmarks of a being a typically bad Sunderland signing.
It's ridiculous. How come we keep changing manager but keep making the same awful signings. There's plenty of time for our transfer policy to change I suppose.

I think the lad will realise this might be his last chance at a big club and will graft his balls off for a manager he knows well, obviously knows where the net is which is a bonus! Personally I think he'll be more of a back up signing!

Staws n clutching there. Embarrassing how Ellis Short has fucked us over. Supporters trying to justify a £900,000 bid for a Bury centre forward. 10yrs in the Premier League and this what it has come to.

Sign of the times for sunderland. Promotion this season is way off.

He's worth a punt. If he helps us get promoted he can be sold on for a small profit. We have no first team strikers as it stands if we are after 4 strikers this makes sense. Although with the emergence of Maja I guess we only need to sign three now.

In a similar way we smiled when Newcastle signed the likes of Daryl Murphy and Dwight Gayle last year, these are the types of players you need in The Championship.

A few experienced lads to go with the experienced players we already have, and who want to be here, will be fine.

We also need to blood our youngsters this season, and it's a long hard slog in this league....we need numbers.
