James Trafford as replacement for Roefs?


If Roefs does go ( I hope he stays at least another season )we want a huge fee as he could be playing another 15 seasons at the top
Sell him for 60 million ànd thats 4 million à term ?
If he is a great keeper( he is ) and saves you say 12 points à season ( that another keeper wouldn’t ) then that’s an absolute steal -we then néed to replace him -pay extra to who we bought him off and take into consideration original fee
Suddenly 60 million looks very cheap for a crucial position?

Nah, I'm not sure what his ceiling is as a keeper and he comes across as a bit of a wanker on the pitch (which sometimes isn't a bad thing) but he wants to play and seems like he is commited to his football.

Roswell was cash grabbing,putting in zero effort and had no heart, havent seen anything to suggest Trafford has these issues.
 
I can’t see us being in the market for a kid.

Realistically next season we won’t be as defensively minded, we’ll still defend, but to push on to top 8 we need to score more goals and that will come at the expense of 11 back, it’ll be 10 back and one hovering on the half way like.

Well keep Roefs or sell and buy experience IMO.

The model is value and if we sacrifice defensiveness for scoring goals we need somebody who knows how to play at this level already.

Our set up at the moment protects inexperience.

patterson is absolutely light years off Roefs. He literally doesn’t come off his line. The amount of pressure Roefs has took off our defence this season coming to claim crosses is absolutely ridiculous.

Patterson just doesn’t do that.

He also can’t kick a ball. It would be a ridiculous downgrade

Agreed. How much do you think a Roefs worthy replacement would cost? Would you be comfortable spending that money on someone who could flop?

As good as our recruitment has been, we will do amazingly well to pick up another Roefs for £12m.

I believe Patto and Ellborg are PL quality keepers (although not at Roefs level) and i would prefer any big fee we get for Roefs be invested elsewhere in the team.

Another advantage is, we will get to increase the value of either of them as they play PL football.
 
I could see him going for an inflated fee because he's English. Also, if the mags want him they'd likely pay well over the odds to avoid losing out to us - again.

If we got £60m for Roefs then spending £25-30m of that on Trafford it would be great business. But if we're suddenly spending 60-70% of any Roefs fee on a replacement then the logic starts to fall away.

If there's no obvious young candidate out there (e.g. Restes, Trubin) I'd be tempted to look for an older option who could give us a season or two while Ellborg gets blooded in - someone like Bounou for example. .
 
Always been negative comments on here about Trafford, probably due to his Shenanigans for Burnley for Wilson Isidors penaltys.

Dont forget he was vital in Burnleys promotion last season when they had months of clean sheets and will probably be in the England World Cup squad. So imo he is already a decent keeper but not as good as Roefs.

Yeah I totally get that but for me they do two seasons here. But that said if we get a huge offer and given the goalkeeper situation at the top clubs I could see a tough decision this summer.
