James Milner

Milner has played mins for Liverpool when they have won trophies so he's way ahead of Barry for me.
Sure he played Boxing Day for Leeds under Reid as a 16 year old. Might even have scored.

Barry also dropped back and played CDM where's as Milner has still played higher up the pitch more.

He did and they beat us that day.

He has, yet Barry has played for City when they were better than Liverpool and won his own honours…

Milner was probably in the same City side come to think of it. May have been less of a regular

"Model professional", "manager's dream" etc.

Seems a decent bloke too.
By who? He got a couple of big moves and played consistently. Do you mean he didn't get enough plaudits? I always thought he did the basics well but was very slow, and was rarely the difference in a match.

Aye, his lack of pace was massively exposed when Germany hammered England in the 'Lampard it was over the line' match.

Could well have done. Think Robson signed him for the visitors so would have been around that time. Good memory if true fella.

Barry was very underrated . Spent far too long at mid table villa. Handsome bastard aswell
Good insight into this in Martin O’Neils book.

Barry was on his way to Tottingham when MoN got the Villa job, with Doug Ellis keen to take the money, but O’Neil persuaded him to stay and get him back into the England squad. Which he did.

Saw more than a few Brighton fans saying he's getting token appearances now and they wish he'd piss off elsewhere as he's just hanging around to break the record.
The Brighton fans were spewing their hoops about him getting brought on last week against us. They reckon that bringing him on at that late stage of the game added another minute, which was just long enough for us to pinch an equalising goal! I must confess that I thought it wierd to bring him on with only around 30 seconds of added time left.......... However, I will grab the point with thanks, and relief.

Bit of a strange one when it's normally seen as a way to waste time at the end of the game.

Brighton fans seems sick of him.

"Should have been Xhaka!"

Had a Manchester City season ticket (both my 2 sons are City fans), so saw both of them play for the club.
Gareth Barry was class, always available for the ball, capable of excellent passing, but also could commit a professional foul.
Milner was more of a workhorse who had great energy and grit.
Gareth Barry, in my eyes, was a far superior footballer, who played far more minutes than Milner has, or will...
