so tell me, as its a long thread. In a sentence, or two at most. what is your opinion of his performance on this tour?
read the thread, as you said its boring this thread, so a lot of what has been said is probably repetitive, will only take you a few minutes
Jimmy Anderson/Stuart Broad test bowiling figures against the the Superpowers of the world game and against the weaker minnows of test cricket
Anderson 108 wickets @ 39.81 against SA/Sri Lanka/Aus/India
Broad 44 wickets @ 40.02
Anderson 97 wickets @ 22.35 against Pakistan, NZ, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh & WI
Broad 55 wickets @ 31.41
Thus, Jimmys bowling average almost doubles when he comes up against the test powerhouses, where Broad goes up by 9. As I have previously said, when Jimmy is more consistent and starts delivering in the big games against the test powerhouses, I will admit I am wrong.
To have an almost identical bowling avg against the big sides is a sad indicement on Jimmy who has been playing test cricket for 8 years as oppose to Broads 3 years.

why such a gulf between his stats against the minnows and the test nations?
is no consideration given to the fact Broad has been a test player for 3 years and for those first two years wasnt given the new ball
id be expecting Jimmy to be doing a lot better

Jimmy has been around for a lot longer, so many of his appearances against Australia will have been against their prime batsmen, rather than the current crop? Whereas Broady will have been against the great pretenders?
You have listed Pakistan as the weaker minnows. This is certainly the case with the bunch that rolled up this year, but previous years they have been one of the best teams in world cricket. In Mohammad Yousuf & Younis Khan they have two of the best batsmen in world cricket during the 90s.
Surely the fair comparison is during the 3 year period that Broad has played Test Cricket, as then you can compare each of the on a level (ish) playing field, even if it is a greentop

Because the top test nations are better? The only thing noticeable from the stats you provide is how poor Broad's stats are against really weak opposition. Also i'm not going to get dragged into a daft comparison between the two as i'm sure Broad has a fine future.
While its a discussion point to talk about how well Jimmy did in India years ago or how badly he did in Sri Lanka years ago it really doesnt matter. Hes a miles better bowler now at this moment in time than he was then. A blind man, blindfolded, sitting backwards on a horse can see that and so can you because despite what some say in here you aren't an idiot.
Its just you dont have the moral courage to admit it. Theres nothing more to be said on the debate until you can get to grips with your lack of moral fibre and admit what everyone knows - that he is at worst a good test match bowler.

Re Australia that is a fair point but I stand corrected, he couldnt get a game when the Aussies were in their pomp. He certainly didnt play in the 2005 Ashes so am not sure what relevance there is
Re Pakistan, Jimmy has only ever played against the shambles that turned up this summer. He has never bowled against Younis or Yusuf in their pomp as he was never selected.
I wouldnt expected Broads figures to be that good for the first year or 18 months of his career as he comes to terms with test cricket. Jimmy has had 8years and his figures against the stronger test nations are identical to Broads
His stats against the minnows are not great but then neither are KP. Big game players tend to perform against the top sides and lose interest against the smaller nations.

Jimmy is still an ordinary test match bowler who will be tested against the batting powerhouses
Im not sure what you can glean from knocking over clubbies/crocks and fraudsters. He had good test stats before our last three series, so what have we learnt that we didnt already know. When he has performed against India, Sri Lanka and SA and is taking his wickets at 30 a piece I will admit he is a good test match bowler

Currently, there isn't a bowler in the world that wouldn't be tested against the batting powerhouses (and rightly so)

Fair point about Pakistan, I'd assumed he would have played against them in the mid 2000s, but he's only played against this year's lot.
The Aussie point was around the last tour downunder when Anderson featured in 3 out of the 5 tests. This was still a very strong Australian batting side, and much stronger than the sides Broady will have bowled against.
The Windies sides of the mid 90s may have been poor in bowling standards, but it still contained Shiv, BCL, Sarwan and the mercurial Chris Gayle.
So the level playing field issue still stands.

I dont think anyone who has followed this thread will think that. They see only a sad eccentric that sets his own criteria and when it is met changes the goalposts to something else. You can use stats as much as you like - he has taken 17 wickets at 29 shown control, reverse swing and bowled match defining spells in a country and against opposition that YOU set as the benchmark. I expect him to do the buisness against England next summer and when he does its sad to say but you will have your excuses lined up for that.

It would be interesting to hear EB's views on Bob Willis' comments last night, stating Anderson has had an exceptional series and has developed into a high class bowler in all conditions.
I do like Bob and he is honest. However, he is prone to chopping and changing his views as and when it suits.
I remember him tearing into Harmy and a few days later was in the studio with him like he was his best mate
