Jack Clarke

The Sun describes Akpom as a ' former Arsenal star '.

That'll be his 4 appearances with them from 2013 to 2018 with no goals.

Ipswich must be thrilled.
He’s had one good season in his career - at Boro. I’m sure he’ll be far from first choice but he won’t be playing for nothing - it’ll be a Premier League wage due the clause, no doubt and he has a 3 year deal.
Barmy.

Played 26

I think we've moved on rightly
What little I saw of Clarke last season he never seemed to.play in the role he had done so well in at Sunderland, often playing narrow in a side struggling for possession. I think he had two starts in a row when he got subbed because Ipswich had a man sent off. McKenna was boasting last week that he had made Clarke a better, more rounded player than he was for us - not sure he is. I still think it's premature to write Clarke off as a Premier League player.

I think Clarke played one way very well in the Championship

Went to Ipswich in the PL and asked to play a different role that he has only sort of just adapted to back in the Championship.

So the fact he can now play in another role slightly McKenna is correct

But its whether he can do it in the PL next year will be the proof in the pudding

McKenna is a YTS Brendan Rodgers. He really fancies himself yet delivered 26 points last time in the PL, despite spending about the same as we did this season.

£7m gone already on Akpom

Jack Clarke reminds me of brilliant Nottingham Forest winger John Robertson. Brian Clough used him in his best position and got the best out of him without requiring him to change his game. Clarke was a brilliant player for us and I’m convinced the right manager could still get the best out of him in the Premier League.

You used Kante as a benchmark
Kante has scored 21 goals in 420 games if we ignore his toy town Saudi games.
Diarra has 18 goals in 150 games.

Neither were bought to be prolific, both have helped to cement our place in the PL this season.

You want rid of both, but have no idea who to replace them with ? Helpful.

You say leave the scouting to Ghisolfi? I agree 100%. That's the same Ghisolfi who landed Diarra and Sadiki.........
You're on repeat. So you don't think we can do better, your opinion. My opinion is we probably can. We can't expect to win many games when the midfield rarely contribute and then we have a top scoring striker with 6 goals. It's not hard to understand. We need to improve next season and for me those 2 can go even if we just make a slight profit. They've both played a part in keeping us up but I suspect they'll both go.
This type of player is so scarce, especially at an affordable level. I cant think of any that are currently good at doing both
That's where good scouting comes in, we need more goals especially in midfield.

I'm not disagreeing tbh

Think the Ipswich move wasn't the best for him but he is likely there for the remainder of his contract

Hes better hugging the touchline and then coming in direct at an angle but mckenna wants the sacrificed for an overlapping left back

Now he has switched I think that'll be that as at 25 no one is building a team round him and its only if he slots into a system that works

Truth be told, I still miss Clarke, he was never afraid to take his man on, something a lot of wingers forget they have to do. That said, I think he's a yard off the pace to be a genuinely effective PL player on the flank.

I’d be happy to see him again. Unfortunately it would mean Ian Harte returning too to hold us to ransom again?
