Jack Clarke

Can't even get in the Ipswich side, well done 😂
As far as I can tell, he’s never slagged Sunderland off, not taken the piss out of the club, done absolutely nothing at all to warrant that.

We got good money for him after a season where we’d just finished 16th in the championship and Ipswich were in the PL. It made sense for all parties at the time.

No I agree. He still should have given us last season and then left if we'd not got promoted though.

I would also add it would be good to see the lad get his form back as he is a good lad

Exactly this. Players move, we love it when players come here so we shouldn't spit our dummies out when they leave.
Clarke did a cracking job for us. Im happy he got his goal today and wish him the best at Ipswich

Whihc position was centre-half? My Dad used to play in that position so I'm guessing it might be a centre back now? He played his footy in the 50's & 60's.
(1) Goalkeeper

(2) Right back (3) Left back

(5) centre half
(4) Right half (6) Left half

(8) Inside Right (10) Inside left

(7) Outside right (11) Outside left

(9) Centre forward

When I first started watching back in 1962, the teams were still displayed in the match programme in this "WM" Formation. In reality, on the pitch, one of the wiing halfs (the 4 or 6) would play deeper alongside the centre half (5) to form joint centre backs. The other wing half would operate as what we now call a midfielder..
And one of the Inside forwards (8 or 10) would lie deeper and the other would be in an advanced attacking role - a co-striker alongside the centre forward (9).

As an example, Sunderland's 1964 promotion winners had:

(1) Montgomery

(2) Irwin (3) Ashurst
(5) Hurley

(4) Harvey (6) McNab

(8) Herd (10) Crossan

(7) Usher (11) Mulhall

(9) Sharkey

So, that's the team in WM formation (as in the programme). In reality, Jimmy McNab was co-centre-back with Charlie Hurley; Martin Harvey waa in midfield with George Herd and Johnny Crossan played up front with Nick Sharkey. Wingers Brian Usher and George Mulhall dropped deeper out of possession but basically attacked down the flanks to feed Sharkey and Crossan.
