Inside forwards had a winger outside of them. The fullback plays that role now.
I think the game has changed quite a lot since the says of having.a five man forward line though.
That's the olde world terminology.

He still has the option to say no to his agent. Let’s stop attacking like he didn’tHe needs to give his agent the boot. He must have watched the playoffs crying as he counted his money. What could have been!
Some right cucks aboutLeft us in the shit near deadline day, and refused to drop his agent despite him knowing the fans feelings towards him. He couldn’t care one bit about this football club and we shouldn’t care about him. I’m sure he’s made a lot of money, but I’m pleased that his career has taken a tumble and we‘ve passed him on the way up.
I refer you to my response to your previous post. What a load of shite.Left us in the shit near deadline day, and refused to drop his agent despite him knowing the fans feelings towards him. Agree with this fully.Part of the problem, and I’m guilty of it too, is that before speakman and KlD our recruitment was so poor we barely sold a player for profit in like 10 years
I think there is so much talk about players who leave as we are not used to it
Guarantee Brighton fans don’t give them too much thought
I think hopefully if we keep improving we will maybe stop over analyzing players going, it’s part of recruitment and generating revenue and will happen a lot
It was a brilliant move for us.It was obvious it would end like this, Harte has a lot to answer for. The lad has been badly advised, some players just find a club they fit in and Clarke found that here. He was advised and took a move to the premier league to a club everyone knew would be coming back down straight away. He’s looked nothing like the player he was here and wouldn’t be surprised if he’s chasing that sort of form for the rest of his career. He will look back as Sunderland time being the pinnacle and if he just stayed he could’ve been on this journey now instead of looking like a squad player at Ipswich who may or may not get promoted.
Agreed. I can’t imagine Brighton give their ex players the same thought as we seem to give Clarke or ex managers like KeanePart of the problem, and I’m guilty of it too, is that before speakman and KlD our recruitment was so poor we barely sold a player for profit in like 10 years

The Club knew what was happening long before deadline dsy. If every footballer dropped their agent* on the say so of fans there'd be no agents...wait, that might work! I am pretty sure Clarke is pleased we got promoted - wasn't he at one of the play off games? A footballer's career is short. Clarke's finsl season with us was a mess of the Club's own creation. Our starting point last season was to ensure we weren't involved in a relegation battle. There were valid reasons for him to doubt we would get promoted last season and he is allowed to have ambitions. Ipswich looked a wrong move as it was obvious he would be sacrificed as they tried to tighten up. What nobody expected was that he would rarely be played in the position he had done so well for us in.Left us in the shit near deadline day, and refused to drop his agent despite him knowing the fans feelings towards him. To be frank, to be classed as an "inside forward" you'd have to be born no later than 1964... the WM formation of wing halfs and inside forwards was laid to rest by the mid-60s rise of 4-4-2.I think inverted wingers and inside forwards are very similar. Id suggest he was a forward as he was more likely to shoot where as Roberts for example is just as likely to put in a cross. As was Johnston.
Either way, my point is, to my mind, for you to be classified as an inside forward, you have to be positioned wide at some point in order to be considered one. Someone who is routinely central can not be.
Whihc position was centre-half? My Dad used to play in that position so I'm guessing it might be a centre back now? He played his footy in the 50's & 60's.To be frank, to be classed as an "inside forward" you'd have to be born no later than 1964... the WM formation of wing halfs and inside forwards was laid to rest by the mid-60s rise of 4-4-2.
Attacking wing halfs became midfielders; defensive wing halfs became centre-backs; Attacking inside forwards became strikers and the more creative inside forwards became midfielders. Only full backs, centre forwards and wingers kept their old identities (and keepers, of course).
Really popular players or managers who leave clubs are always going to be well thought of by fans mate.Agreed. I can’t imagine Brighton give their ex players the same thought as we seem to give Clarke or ex managers like Keane
I had this same argument at the time with some bloke and I couldn’t get it through to him that the player has the final say. He just kept saying it’s the agents fault, it his job to find clubs etc. I swear some people are actually mental !!He still has the option to say no to his agent. Let’s stop attacking like he didn’t

Agree with this fully.
For a club to be ran well and sustainable, we will need to sell players that we like (as they are playing well and sought after);rather than keeping them with us till they are past their prime.
It’s why we were a basket case last time in the premier league.
Fans get so emotional. Selling Darren Bent for 18-24 million was one of the most senisible things we did in the premier league.
He was more or less finished 12 months later - but many of our fans couldn’t take it.
It was a brilliant move for us.
We had Mundle and Watson in reserve. We made a huge profit whilst probsbky realising he may not be good enough for the premier league.
Jack Clarke got a stab at the premier league. If he stayed with us we may have bought adingra anyway as an improvement, so would have 3 left wingers.
He was sold at the right time. We all just thought he was worth more, but in hindsight we got a great deal for him.
As said previously, selling players for profit is going to be a really important part of our club and taking us forward.
I agree….but SAFC has been his only real highlight so far. I hope that he goes on to better things, but he needs to get away from McKenna…who just doesn’t seem to understand his best position. And the point I am making is that he is 24 and probably has 8-10 years of his career left. He only developed into a top player while playing for us and has been misused thus far by Ipswich. His career ain’t exactly over though, is it?
I totally agree. But I would like to see him back here before he hangs his boots up. Not that that is how football works.I agree….but SAFC has been his only real highlight so far. He would still (at the moment) be surplus to requirement for us. So, as much as I like him, he would need to improve somewhat to be part of the ‘process’ at Sunderland.
