Jack Clarke

I like following our old boys. To this day liked watching Everton for Pickford for example

I always used to worry about that but then players would confound me by stepping up when we got promoted. Reid’s 2nd promotion team and Keanos promotion team proved that it’s about the team, and if you are stepping up within the same team it’s easier than a new club, new system etc
Watched Man United and Ipswich yesterday-no great shakes -thought Ipswich were actually better
So can make a go of it -v difficult but not impossible with good recruitment and development of players .
Worry about that if it happens ( big if and enjoying the football at the minute )

You’ve a real issue with us don’t you. Did we cost you an accumulator last season or something?

McKenna has taken us from 11th in League 1 to the premier league in three seasons with a total transfer spend of 5m. We’ve then spent this summer admittedly but have found our feet and getting results to match plenty of excellent performances.

Most neutrals thought we were the better team today against man United after an away win at spurs who’ve just gone and tonked Man City 4-0 themselves.

I know you’re desperate to be relegated based on other conversations on other threads. I can only assume maybe us going up annoyed you enough for you to be willing us to be rubbish every week. When in reality we’re giving it a right good go. We’ve a decent run of fixtures now until Christmas so hopefully some performances like today will get some wins.

You spent £10M in the 1st division!

Just the £120M this season and you're bottom 3 behind Leicester who've just sacked their manager.

Is that the Spurs game you only had 33% possession, 3 shots on target and didn't really deserve to win? 😂

Long winter if you can't win games...

Are people seriously suggesting he should have turned down a move to the premier league and probably tripling his wage?
There’s a load of posts after this one, but what I think would have been sensible would be to join a team that are not very likely to go down. Even if that meant waiting another 6/12 months.

Potentially Clarke could end up back in the Championship next year, being part of a relegated team he wasn’t deemed good enough to get into & starting all over again. Tough to get another premier league club to pay for you at that point.

He’ll have a few more quid in the bank.

Stay a bit longer, keep performing as he did he could have arguably got a better move. You’d be pretty certain he’d play almost every minute & to a high standard.

Fwiw ( nowt !) I thought you were the better side yesterday and hope you do well -gives everyone hope if the promoted teams can compete.
You are probably a strange one for some fans-there was a feeling you got Clarkey for relative peanuts ?-and so one or two will hope he flops
For counterbalance most I’ve seen wish him well and thank him for some tremendous displays -at times to coin a phrase he was “ worth the entrance money “ to see him .
No sour grapes here

They've won 1 game with a third of the season gone.

'Can compete' indeed.

By competing I mean staying up …
Others have done it buts it’s v difficult
Then build year on year

They're only three points off 14th. Relegation is by no means a certainty. So yes they can compete.
We have are different meaning to compete then. Barely keeping your nostrils afloat for part of the season isn't competing to me.

I reckon they'll finish behind Palace once they pick up and behind Wolves. Still find it difficult to see any of the promotion teams staying up.

They completely outplayed Tottenham in the first half and deservedly won. Only when Spurs went hung ho in the second half did they look like getting anything from the game. This post reeks of bitterness.

Why would I be bitter about Ipswich, they are total irrelevant to me.

There fans come on here giving it the big one, I give a bit back because they are bottom 3 staring relegation in the face. That's a fact.

Palace and Wolves have already picked up. They were both on similar points at Soton not so long ago. Ipswich are doomed if they can't turn draws into wins.

I know this is not the popular view but once a player leaves us I cease to care. And that includes Stewart, Pickford, Henderson and Clarke. I also feel the length of time a player was here influences my thoughts about them.

2 seasons means nowt.

2 and half for Clarkey. I haven't seen him or Ross Stewart play a single minute.

I don't think he should have went to Ipswich, always hard to play in a struggling side. Even harder if they have a rigid style that doesn't play to your strengths.

They are also carrot crunching nobodies 😉

I've said this countless times but people just interrupt and shout wages, wages in your face.

Aye, he's on more money but now he's a bench warmer for a much smaller club, with a very high of going straight back down. There's more to football than just wages.
Not when you retire there isn’t

I think the next 4 games will potentially give them a chance to get the points board ticking over.
Or let them know they are out of their depth

Forest Palace Bournemouth Wolves

6/7 out of that would give them something to hold on to

As people have said , it’s those draws they somehow need to turn in to the odd win.

They don't play to his strengths
I'd not know mate, I've not really watched many of their games as I've very little interest in the PL beyond hoping mags get beat.

Two other lads on our WhatsApp group are ManU 'fans', neither are from anywhere near Manchester much less Salford, and Robb is Ipswich.

There was a bit of banter flying about yesterday so I asked about Clarke. He was very "Meh!" about him, his contribution to the team and how he's performed when he's got on the pitch.

They could well be not playing to his strengths but surely decent players can adapt enough to showcase themselves if they get an opportunity?

I think he is a decent player and maybe it's getting used to the pace of the game and less time to think in the PL or maybe he needs to tell their gaffer he's better out wider rather than playing him inside/away from the byeline.

I get the feeling though that he's, McKenna, quite rigid in the style he wants the team to play.
