Jack Clarke

The deal probably suited the club more than it suited Clarke, mind.

It's no secret that we're in the business of selling players at their optimum value in order to facilitate further incomings/strengthen the wider squad - and after the shit show of the second half of last season Clarke was our most saleable asset by far. And its probably no coincidence that key incomings only started to happen once he was out of the door (Isidor, Mepham, and Samed are only loans we'll be paying loan fees and/or covering wages).

People need to get over him and move on. It will have mainly been the club's choice to sell him, and we're in a healthier overall position without him. What we've done in contingency before (Mundle) and after demonstrates how this model works well.

What I’d say on it as a Towen season ticket holder and one who’s done half of our aways this season, he’s looked low on confidence since we signed him. I saw him play for yous on tv a few times and he’s a totally different player. And it’s been like that since day 1 of signing him bar a good half against Aston Villa.

Not sure why but he’s just not doing it and gives the ball away a fair bit. Szmodics has frankly offered us so much more and it’s not even close as to who most of us would prefer based on this season. Whereas in pre season when it was clear we were interested in both from Blackburn and yourselves, the majority of us would’ve gone for Clarke had we only been able to get one.
Thanks for that. How far away is he from doing so bad a loan back to us for the rest of the season would be considered? (Like others have said doubt we’d be interested bar a recovery setback to Mundle and or Watson) Saw you signed that left winger Philogene and surely now he’s starting to look pretty far down the pecking order.

I would add that when he was asked to play even a slightly different role for us (sometimes he played up top) his effectiveness dropped off.

He's hardly been given any time though and he seems to be in and out the side, he needs a consistent run of games. He very nearly scored against Fulham relying purely on his own skill and brilliance.

It was a shit move for him - always was going to be, playing in a poor team pretty much guaranteed to be relegated that doesn’t play with a typical wide left attacking player was never going to get the best out of him.

He / Ian Harte should have waited for a better move, which would have come this month if he’d maintained his form for us, which he would have. With him in the team this season however we’d likely be higher in the table and he may well have decided to stay.

Really poor decision for him and he could have really screwed his career

His spurs contract would have been good, and he had a very good contact on the table here
Yep that’s exactly why I have no sympathy, the contract we where offering would of been say 20k a week for 3/5 years, the cons outweighed the pros and only more money being the only real positive and he hardly would of been in the poor house if he’d stayed

What’s his one trick ??
Cutting inside the fullback.

He cannot hit the byline as he cannot kick with his left foot.
The times he did hit the byline and still try and cross with his right foot was a pisstake for a professional footballer.
Have him back on a free if Ipswich want rid. Then sell him again after we have raised his stock as part of our promotion run.
Why?
Watson is a far better player.

He is still a very good player.....he has been played out of his usual position at Ipswich, something he is not used to.

Lack of game time / adjusting to new surroundings / adjusting to new role in side will all effect the lads confidence.

He will have learned a great deal from this move and imo will be a better player.....just needs the right club and the confidence of a manager.

Listen mate, I'm all for bigging up our players, and I have no doubt that Watson is going to go on to do great things... but if your suggesting that Watson offers more now that what Clarke would, you need to put down the glue.

Idiot troll, no Sunderland fan would ever say he can’t hit the byline and cross with his left, as if he couldn’t we would never had beat Sheff We’d away in the play offs.

Put it this way, if Clarke hadn't moved, he'd still be first choice under Regis, and It's as simple as that really.
That is true -I wonder what he genuinely thinks about the situation ( I know he’s not an safc lad like us …but after Spurs issues he found his feet with us )
Loved by the fan base -“ the main man “ and would undoubtedly be integral to this promotion push
All about choices ( and yes financially much better off) but I wonder if he has regrets …with him in the current set up I think we would make top 2 ?
Great player-well for safc at least

Find it mental that some (a minority) are so bitter. To suggest Mundle and Watson are better is just silly. He was outstanding for us, could have pushed through a move in 2023 but didn't then left to pursue a Prem move at a time when his future needed to be resolved one way or another. He'd have been mad to turn it down.
