Philogene went to Villa who had a 30% sell on from Hull so didn't end up paying the whole fee.

Ipswich had 18m accepted for him.

The fact he's getting minutes in a champions league team, whereas Clarke only had a promoted team in for him suggests he was more highly regarded.

Either that or they knew the player.

Ipswich might give us most of the money upfront whereas Lazio may have wanted to spread it over a few years, something like that.

Difference is it was verbally agreed by the player. Seems like his agent advised him not to sign as he could get him more money by moving him on. We will never know the ins and outs but seems like it was close to him staying! 😞

You're argument was about him flopping and I said if that were to be the case we got what was right for him.
 
Might he have done a big round of thanks to the fans after the Wednesday game if the deal was this close to complete? Or at least tomorrow we'll see how he acts with it

Apparently Fabrizio Romano reckons we have a sell on clause (though as journalists seem unable to even agree on the fee I am not sure how correct this is)

It wasn't beyond the realms of possibility. It's the target after all.

Of course it was dependent on us achieving that, but if we didn't then you say fair enough, get yourself away Jack and best of luck.

How much less would he be worth next year? A good season and he’d still be a 15m quid sale. It’s not like they’ve offered so much we couldn’t refuse.

I’m just boggled they’ve sold the lad for what may well be 11m quid approximately, yet for that 11m quid we’ve ripped our most productive player out of the team.

And it’s not like Clarke wasn’t productive or being arsey because he didn’t get a move or a pay rise earlier, he’d have kept giving his best this year.

We are now in the position that we’ve lost our highest goal scorer and most creative threat from last season so have weakened ourselves massively for relative buttons

Gyrokere went for 20m euro according to reports. Now touted between 86 and 131 million in speculation. I think we’re probably slightly guilty of over valuation of Clarke. I think 17.5m plus almost certain 5m would have been okay and it may be in that region. The 15m could even be what we clear after paying Spurs. We’ll never know with any degree of certainty.
