Jack Clarke

He'll have one season in the Premier League, in a dismal relegation battle which they'll lose. Hardly a step up for him, so you have to wonder who's benefiting here.

Well he will financially for starters. And he’ll have the opportunity to put himself in the shop window for bigger and better things. For him, it’s no brainer. A good contract and top flight football.

For Ipswich, they’ve got a player with potential for a decent fee that might come good in the top flight. If so, he can help keep them up and / or make them profit. If they go down and he’s a bit short of quality in that division, they’ve a top second tier player still on their books with parachute payments to play with.

For Sunderland, they’ve money in the bank, proof of financial sustainability and good FFP books and the opportunity to go and buy three unproven bairns that might make a few quid profit in three years time.

It’s a deal that works for all parties except Sunderland supporters.

Oh, and Spurs and Ian Harte make a few bob as well.

If it’s true spurs have a 25% sell on clause and the 15 + 5 million offer is what we’ve accepted then we’ve just sold our best player for 12 million quid with a week left of the window. Wow.
The fee is pathetic. We have been right royally ripped off.

Really disappointing from Sunderland but we clearly have no money and have jumped at the only offer on the table.

Quick question about something I don't know.

If Clarke does end up going for £25m, I know we will get the money for him in installments over the course of his contract by amortisation. Does the sell on fee we owe to Spurs get spread out over the course of the contract as well or do we have to pay that straight up?

Normally tied into the payment structure as to how we get paid, although will be defined in the contact when we signed him from Spurs

From his point of view, I just think it's a bit of a weak move. I get he wants PL and a bigger pay but hes joining a team likely to end up relegated. Im sure he could have got a better move than that if he shows what he can do this year
Him and his agent have been after a payday. It’s been evident for a while now unfortunately.

It’s shit but this is the nature of the game now. We all expected this anyway so not sure why it’s being treated as a big shock

All clubs lose their best players. It’s not a Sunderland thing. Plenty of clubs in the premier league are there as a result of selling their better players and having the money to improve the rest of the squad.

All on those at the club to use it wisely now. Losing Clarke is a blow and an opportunity, as others have shown. My worry is that they waste it.

Yep football is a game all about money you got that right. Don't really begrudge anyone earning more money it's a short career.

Irrelevant to my point. Playing for a newly promoted side in the Prem isn't exactly the glamour of playing in the Prem.

He's delusional he's going to have much of an effect as he thinks. He's our best player by a mile. He's now a small fish in a big pond. Ipswich made a lot of big money signings in forward areas, he's not a guaranteed starter.

Like I said he was absolutely shite against premier league opposition not sure if he's climbed out of Trippiers pocket yet

I'd rather play for a crap Premier League team than a crap Championship team like last season.

Without him last season we would be playing League One football this weekend.

Hugely disappointing but not surprising. Will get some detail at some point as my sister and husband know his parents (live round the corner from them in Tang Hall/Heworth in York).

I’d have kind have been ok if it was Palace, even Southampton… but signing for the Binners? Makes it worse.
