Jack Clarke

Selling for 25m - 30m I’d begrudgingly accept. He could get injured or go off form for example. I recall us turning down a large amount for Kenwyne from Spurs only to sell him for a third of the offer a season or so later to Stoke (maybe due to injury).

This all said, Clarke’s basically irreplaceable in this division, and the money from a prem promotion is a lot higher than profits netted here. Ipswich aren’t much better than a sideways step so there’s a degree of frustration in that sense, compared to if an established pl side was after him. It all seems a bit pointless all round (apart from the agent lining his pockets) and a sad indictment on the financial gap between the leagues.

Holding on for another 6 months or a year would make more sense (are we in with a shout/are Ipswich adrift) but the noise here doesn’t sound promising.
the noise is SAFC rejected the bid..everything else is just people making shit up on here..

TBF almost all of thethe players who come 6th or 7th in the premier league this season..if they play regualrly and arent very old our out of contract would sell for £40mn

he played 22 games in the league the league the season newcastle had a very good run...and 21 last season...
Idiot

A club in the championship isn’t going to turn down much more than 20m if it’s responsibly run that’s just the reality of it.

All these wet wipes wiping their fannies over clarke maybe going, yes he was our most dangerous forward last year when we had no strikers and most of the time had to beat 2/3 players but to say we don't have a replacement is stupid. We don't need a replacement as good as clarke albeit it would be brilliant but I think with mundle there and the 2 new strikers plus mayender up front he'll only have 1 defender on him. Those 3 c/f whoever plays will take away those defenders that clarke had to get past to make things happen, mundle could be just as effective with his speed going past the right back. Teams aren't gonna put 2/3 players on him when we have such good c/f. Just my thoughts and I don't care if no one agrees

Mundle

Your first paragraph answers the issues of the next two. We did similar with Kone with Everton turned down 18m from memory and his value plummeted after.

He gets at least a season in the prem and will probably treble his wages. He's then in the shop window for other prem teams.

Who's to say he's going to cut it in the prem. There has been countless players who have ripped up this league and never made the cut in the prem.
All true and Kone’s a stand out example. Take out the fan favourite sentiment stuff with players, and view from a purely financial perspective and it probably makes a lot of sense to sell and reinvest. Though there’s a lot of ’what ifs’.

Bang on mate.

Can't remember making 14m profit many times in the prem let alone the championship.

Quite a bit here and there saying it’s rejected but but that’s probably just a starting point for negotiations. However if Clarke not keen on the move we could just string it out knowing he’s not going…

Of course we are rejecting.

There’s a week or more left of business to do.

There’s no urgency and selling this week would take a big, big offer.

Honestly feel Harte is just shopping him around, worried that the interest is a bit soft.

exactly. Its noticeable as well that the offer is from ipswich..we seem to have gone from lazio and newcastle looking at him,...to ipswixh..I dont think there are a queue of clubs out there that want him

Quick question about something I don't know.

If Clarke does end up going for £25m, I know we will get the money for him in installments over the course of his contract by amortisation. Does the sell on fee we owe to Spurs get spread out over the course of the contract as well or do we have to pay that straight up?

I think this will happen, an extra £5m or so is fuck all to a club in the PL. It could be the making of us if we use the money to improve the overall team, of course it could derail our season if we don't.
