To be fair the bloke quoted genuinely belies mark wood has been better for England than James Anderson so need to be taken with a dumper truck size load of salt like
 

Rutter a year younger than Clarke who isn’t as a good a player and whose stats aren’t in the same street as Clarke has just been sold to Brighton for £40m! There is serious questions to be asked if we sell Clarke for any less, simple question to KLD or I suppose to any buying club…. why should we be considering selling Clarke for anything less?

It's still a substantial profit from the initial fee we paid, which is what the models all about.
But I agree the fee in the modern market is miles off.
 
in the summer i thought it very unlikely Clarke would ever kick a ball for Sunderland again. And I was resigned to it.

Now two games in… if he leaves… to Ipswich ffs (no disrespect to them but they’ll be coming back down next season) I’ll be gutted
 
If we are paying Spurs 40% of his transfer fee then I wouldn’t be surprised if we took a lower fee upfront but with a significant sell-on of our own, might be why such a low fee is being talked about.

That coming from Michael Walker says its pretty much done to me like. Pretty sure the club have briefed him in the past about numberous things. Stink's of the club trying to control the narrative early and then announce the two forwards just after it becomes public we've accepted.

£15m+ add ons is an absolute pisstake

I personally think Rutter has a much higher ceiling that Clarke and that's why he has a higher value. Clarke can be a bit one-dimensional running at defenders and cutting inside (even though he is admittedly very, very good at it), while Rutter operates centrally and is a more versatile footballer. Plus he dropped in as a 10 last year and picked up 16 assists in a team that had Piroe, Summerville, Gnonto, and Bamford. He didn't need to score goals because we was creating them for others. Are you saying Jack would have scored 15 last season if in the Leeds squad? 25m to 30m is a fair value in my mind.

This his goals alone should be worth least £20 million at the lower scale

Stinks of the club preparing for departure of their best player by lining up other good players. How dare they...

Still shouldn't take 15m + 5, but why fault the club for preparing possible replacements? Also, let's save the outrage for when an actual decision is made.
