Jack Clarke

I don't see the point in a move to Ipswich. He moves there, spends the season defending his own box without the ball, most likely comes back down and ends up back in the same situation next summer. If it's an established side or a side then fair enough, but Ipswich would be a poor move imo.

I get the doubling wages argument, but he can double his wages next summer when a more established prem team comes knocking if we don't go up.

Finally, Liam Delap cost Ipswich £15 million, thats the price of an average player now. I'd be disappointed if we were to let him go for less than £30 million including add ons. To start a bit at £15 million is insulting in todays market imo.

Well I was resigned to the fact that we would lose Clarke this window and it was only a matter of time.

Then Skunkhater posted and gave us some hope that we would be able to hang on to him and he'd sign a new deal on improved terms.

Now if he does go it's gonna feel like a kick in the balls.
I hope we stand firm and try and extract the maximum amount of money that we can.
Clarke can do better than Ipswich and we can hopefully do better than 20m plus add-ons.
The best outcome is surely that he remains at Sunderland and pens a new deal. If he's motivated by money that isn't going to happen here. We can't compete with Premier league clubs in terms of wages, even newly promoted ones like Ipswich.
Reject bids please Mr Speakman. If he must go hold out for top dollar.

The cynical hope is that the club are leaking this story to make a new contract agreement seem like an even greater fillip. Well, that’s my cynical hope anyway.
Are you always like this?

Correct?

Generally, yeah. As the last 18-24 months have borne out.

We can’t sell Clarke to Ipswich. Ha’way man. It makes no sense. We have to gamble on keeping him and getting promoted. We’ll make more money keeping him by getting in the premier league.

We're in a strong position, Clarke has 2 years left and is seemingly happy to stay and play if no move happens. Usually PL clubs get what they want, because they have a £100m+ per year advantage, Ipswich need to pay a real fee or fuck off.

Leeds have sold Gray and Summerville, Coventry sold Gyokores, Middlesbrough sold Akpom, Bristol City sold Scott. It's a fact of life that Championship clubs will sell if the price is right.

The frustration is that it would/will spiral,

Sell off Clarke now, and we don’t get promoted. Where does that leave us with regard to holding on to the likes of Neil, Bellingham, Ballard, Rigg, Cirkin, Patterson, Hume in a years time? Do we expect these lads to hang around indefinitely in the hope that one day - at an indeterminate point however many years in the future - the club might prioritise promotion? Good luck with that.

Nobody has ever seen a pile of bank notes score a goal.

"Indefinitely" slipped in well there. Fuck me man, who signs a contract for an indefinite length of time?

The majority have signed up to staying here. That's significant regardless if you care to believe it or not.

Enormous pressure on whoever comes in to replace him. Have to hit the ground running.

Similar to the centre forward who arrives, too.

I think we should hold on and reevaluate in January depending on where we are in the league.

They keep saying they don’t have to sell and we aren’t close to financial fair play… would be nice to show some ambition and back the head coach.

Spot on. It’s not like we’re gambling it all anyway. Even if we didn’t get promoted he’d still have a year left next summer and we’d still command a good fee.

Do we not think it'd a bit coincidental after Harte was prostituting him and Clarke to Leeds they've got a winger come in suddenly Ipswich have randomly come in for a bid?

I hope something good comes into your life mate and makes you happy because you seem a right miserable fucker. There's bot all you can do about it, so relax and enjoy your life.

But they are exactly where we are hoping to be in a best case scenario in 1 years time. If we get promoted we'll be the Ipswich of next season.

I’ve read my post back, and I can’t see a single reference to anyone signing a contract for an indefinite length of time?

It is, but one could also argue that Leeds looked elsewhere as they could not compete with Ipswich.

I hate transfer windows me

And Ian Harte

The problem there is (and this is one of the few times I do agree with the club), is if they show some ambition and take us close to FFP and it doesn’t work out, we’re then stuck until we offload some players.

I’d rather us keep the ones we know are good.
