The truth is none of us know what the actual fee is. Sky Sports are saying 15m but others have said 20m + add ons.

Whatever it is we'll just have to get over it. It's not the first time it's happened and won't be the last. It seems a strange move for him but it seems pretty clear Ian Harte wasn't going to rest until he got him out of the door. It's a shame because the lad genuinely seemed to love it here.
everything ive seen says up to £20m including add ons

Thanks for that.
Seems like Sunderland have had Ipswich's pants down, not the other way round.

£10M profit on him, with maybe £3M in achievable add ons. £13M profit on him at best really. Not what we thought we'd be getting by a long shot.
So you really think the new contracts will stop sales ? Not a chance mate , really don’t know how people are ok with this.

Aye just means we arent selling for a year more really- not much else

Won’t stop sales but puts us in the best possible position. If someone wants Jobe next summer we can point to the fact he’s got 3 years on his deal and say pay up. Rather than considering plummeting value after 2 years.

Just come context to the fee received.

15m @ 75% is £11.25 million
5m in add ons are expected to be received and suggestion seems to be that as they are performance based spurs won’t get a cut of it.

Total received - £16.25 million
Now in order to get that from initial fee alone without add ons we would need to sell him for £21.67 million
Seems like club may have structured the deal to keep a larger % of the deal.

Also none of this takes into account the rumoured 15% sell on which is likely going to be worth a million or two at least.

Or it could be up to £3m likely add ons as others are reporting, meaning nearer £14m received. Thats nowhere near his value imo, even with a sell on clause included

The problem is we’ll never know the real figures

There is suggestion that Sunderland would keep 100% of add ons therefore you are at £15 million profit and that’s without any potential fees from the sell on we are getting

Even if we don’t get the 2 slightly less guarenteed add one. 14.25 million plus 15% of his next sale will get us around the 16/17 mark and they wanted to make 17/18 after spurs clause. So it’s an absolutely fine deal

In what world have we "had Ipswich's pants down" when they've signed one of the best players in the championship for 15m-20m?
That’s all he is though a good championship player, been saying it for months now he is not yet a premier league standard player.

I could be wrong but wasn’t spurs sell on for profit of next sale not net?

So in which case if we paid around 2 mil for Clarke that I’ve seen rumoured they’re only getting a % of 13 million

Well I don’t see any of those 3 leaving next week do you? And January isn’t very likely either.

At least that’s something. Jobe could’ve easily angled for a move and followed Clarke out the door.

Like I say 16th last season, we aren’t in the finest bargaining position even for this league.

Doesnt matter if we keep it all if they arent achieved. Try and shine the fee up as much as you want mate, but its still shit.

Why care about the fee? We have no say in what they do with it.

I’m more disappointed in losing our best player in that position.

Just can’t get my head around the fact he’s joining Ipswich ffs.

I think that’s too extreme

£20m initial was probably achievable if there was a bidding war but £25m basic wasn’t realistic. You could tell by the fact that nobody was bidding anywhere near that level
Seems like a panic sell to me 🤷🏼‍♂️
