Is Keith Downie forgiven?

The reason he didn’t cover us over recent years is simply sky don’t care about non premier league. Look at boro now, other than a couple of tweets they get nothing.

His love for the mags as a little bit strange but now he’s covering us again properly he does seem genuinely excited about what the club is doing.

I don’t disagree with the bit in bold mate but he went on like a tit on Twitter.

Then when he is in tears when announcing the mag takeover, it’s not hard to see why folk thought he was a plastic mag.
This, mental how anyone at the club or fans would give him the time of day.

Only wants to be involved with us now we’re spending a bit and things are looking up. I won’t forget him and others like him they way they fawned over the Saudi takeover.

Morals lower than a snakes belly.

FTM

Imo, he never expected us back in the PL so soon.

Whilst we were struggling in L1, he played up to the mags as Sky were only interested in the PL and it made his life a bit easier.

Even when we were last in the PL he used to spend his evenings in bars in Newcastle hanging out with ex-mag players.

When they were in Europe a few years ago he was spending his evenings in the pubs with their fans singing Newcastle songs and buying people shots.

Hes always preferred that lot.

Seems devastated to have not gone to Asia for the mags tour and also not getting access to Sunderland North for Mr relegations arrival, (having to record it from behind a bin 😂). Is the despotic regime trying to freeze him out?.

My take is, that the stuff he alluded to is deplorable. Threats to him and his family, terrible.
Theres banter, some of which he took part in, but there's taking it too far. Which looks like it happened. Not on.

I also agree that we weren't something to report on. For all the piss taking of him, let's be honest, no one cared about reporting on safc. I can get that. Its business sense.

However.....im also fairly certain (imo.....happy to be disproved) that his sky executives also didn't say "Keith, cry over the takeover. Ingratiate yourself amongst their fans. Love it and laud over it"

'Have ant & dec as your X profile and say on YouTube you're "Newcastle correspondent"'

They won't have. He did that.

And now where are we? A cynic may say that the current situation, the mags current transfer turmoil and fume, and safc feel good factor is an ideal time for some PR moves to try and bury some of that. Certainly makes sense from his point of view.
And if he needed an safc platform to give him that, then what better than.......
;)
But that would be a cynic!

A listened to that podcast today. He’s still a Geordie lick arse fuck him.

Not saying he deserves abuse but he brought some of it on himself with he’s cheeky/cocky replies on Twitter. Can’t blame him for biting but it’s clear as day he bots the mags.

Some really gannin on like NUFC fans here “wah Keef is a mag who cried on TV to support sportswashing”. There’s a parallel thread devoted to their delusional antics without idiots trying to pretend that he’s part of a grand conspiracy.

He’s a lad from Edinburgh who supports Hearts, in tight jeans who thinks a lot about himself, and is paid to cover North East Premier League Football by Sky.

Love him or loathe him there’s really little else to say than that. Personally, I’m glad he’s one more person covering the lads now that we are back in the PL as it means more content for all of us.

If you don’t like it, you don’t have to consume it at all.

I don't mind him but there's no world where he gets an easy ride off 100% of Sunderland fans after he literally wept with joy when a known journalist-murderer bought Newcastle.

He cried on the telly when the Saudis took over, he’s not paid to do that the mag ****

Listened to the podcast and it was a canny listen and I get the employer position, however he is and was far too emotionally involved in their takeover.

None of that excuses the abuse and threats he has had mind,

just take him as any journalist reporting rumours/information with a pinch of salt and in his case when he posts/reports on the mags just ignore him.

As I posted earlier mate, I think he (and tbf other elements of the NE press pack) thought we were finished. He could therefore fully engage with Newcastle and not have any issues. Hence getting all emotional, being a bit of a tit on Twitter etc.

Now we’ve been promoted, a suspect a lot of the journalists (not just Keith) will now need to build bridges again with the club. Although a lot of them have never hidden their loyalties, I cant remember them ever being so biased say 10 years ago.

At the end of the day, I wish the bloke well but if we do drop, I’d be amazed if he ignores us again in a hurry.
