That article focuses on certain areas not taking up the offer of the vaccine. They will undoubtedly suffer more from COVID. That has nothing to do with area being poor, it relates to ignorance. Is Covid at risk of becoming a disease of the poor? Is Covid at risk of becoming a disease of the poor?
Important thing is knowing why the stats are the way they are
was TB ( consumption ) not regarded as a disease of poorer people i.e sub-standard housing ?
Didnt realise was still around in any number tbh. Thought it was going way of smallpox. It still is, but it’s exceptionally more common in minority communities due to travel. Though 2020 will be an odd year for TB incidence.
In white communities TB is almost always due to alcohol, drugs, homelessness or prison.

I am going to steal this analysisThis kind of data and analysis is quite literally what I do, specifically how different groups in society use, experience and benefit from healthcare.
I am very hesitant at the moment to make any judgements about how vaccination uptake is socially patterned, especially in areas of high minority populations.
This is because minority populations are likely to live in very poor areas. You’d need to look at everyone living in a deprived area, and then compare their uptake rates.
Age is another one. The most deprived areas, and highly diverse areas are both younger on average. Poor people die much younger on average and minority people tend to be younger on average.
I suspect if you take this dataset, control for factors such as age and ethnicity, then there won’t be much of a ‘socioeconomic gradient’ to the data, in other words, I suspect that amongst the older white population, the uptake gap will be smaller between the richest and poorest.
Some areas are reporting 95%+ uptake in the elderly. That just isn’t possible with huge gulfs in uptake between different groups.

It was - until we stopped vaccinating children and allowed unvaccinated people in from areas of the globe where TB runs rife.
