Is County Durham more red n white or black n white?

Depends where West Durham starts. Willington is 90-10, Crook 60-40, Dales used to be 70-30 not sure after Keegan. North Durham, Ch.le.st, Pelton, Stanley seems more b and w. I think most are giving numbers backed up with local knowledge. Its pretty easy in a small village especially if you grow up in it.

I would say spenny was much more Safc before 92, a lot of mags now but I think many moved to the area as well. Of my close mates, 11 Sunderland 1 boro, no mags but I am 42, will be different now

As lovely though Durham is, it isn't a big city. One of the reasons it can't sustain a Football League club.

Used to travel on a bus to aways from Spenny. Owned by Denny Greenwell I think, only other name I can remember from that era was Spenna and a lad who I played football with from middlestone moor I think big Tony. Willington was 95-5 SAFC pre Keegan and probs 85-15 now. Dont think any of the 15 go and have never attended an away game.

I would say Mags/Boro about the same and SAFC not that far behind. Contrast that with Hartlepool which has easily twice as many more than SAFC and Boro put together.

I noticed when I did a bit of work in Hartlepool that the local halfwits who would be wandering round during the day aimlessly were highly likely to be sporting Newcastle attire. Proper scruffy c unts n'all

If you get the train up from Teesside to Sunderland on match day, there are always loads who get on at Hartlepool. I always assumed there were a lot more SAFC there than Stockton or Darlington, I.e. Other traditional co. Durham towns of similar size nearby.

Born and grew up in Tow Law (1958) also went to school in Wolsingham. Whole school probably 60-40 with quite a few plasticLeeds and Man utd

Do you mean Durham City or County Durham? Either way its not true unless you compare it to Sunderland itself. True there are mags in Durham City and County Durham but rest assured its not mag territory.

It might well be worth Sunderland seriously marketing itself as 'the County Durham club'. There must be thousands or even tens of thousands from Gateshead,South Shields, Durham, Stockton and Billingham who regularly go to either Newcastle or Middlesbrough. If the campaign worked, could put a fair few more on the home gate - would need to coincide with at he likes of a cup win/entertaining football in all likelihood though to succeed (73 cup win supposedly broadened our support base at the time).

Proper Sunderland fans in Ashington. Always had a bus for home and away matches unlike the scum supporters who prefer the clurb to watch their football.

Went to my first match on a supporters bus from Ashington aged 6 in 1982. Travelled a few times as a young kid but never since.
There was a few years in the 90s when no one ran a bus if I remember rightly.
